In this paper, Yin and Yang are viewed as being in motion from the beginning and generating Qi. Qi develops form and substance from the Five Elements through this process. Each month represents the Qi of Heaven and Earth in the four seasons. Through the movement of Yin and Yang and the creation of the Five Elements, the paper explores the fundamental principle of Qi transforming into substance.
Within the seasons-spring, summer, autumn, and winter-nature manifests the alternating movement of Yin and Yang, forming the Five Elements, which produce all things as they interact harmoniously with generation and overcoming. According to Laozi, in the Tao Te Ching, Yin, Yang, movement, and stillness are all roots of Taiji. Based on the principles of mutual generation and mutual overcoming found in Hetu and Luoshu, the I Ching illustrates the structural combination of Yin and Yang, and uses these to create the trigrams and hexagrams that make up "Change".
According to Taijitu Shuo, Yin and Yang appear in a mutually complementary relationship as movement and stillness respectively. Despite being one Qi, the Five Elements are simultaneously Wuji and Taiji. Myeongrihak defines Yin and Yang as the principles of movement between Heaven and Earth, while the harmony of generation and overcoming within the Five Elements leads to the transformation of everything. Understanding the underlying philosophical thinking is crucial. There are two types of ancient methods: Ancient method and Yin-Yang Five Elements. The theory of yin-yang and the five elements shows that all things are interconnected to nature through the energy of the sky and the shape of the earth.
A product of nature, humans are born with the energy of heaven and earth, as well as the five elements and yin and yang. Yang and yin are opposing energies, and their movement causes change. Through the movement of yin and yang, the energy of the Five Elements is formed through the harmony of mutual generation and mutual inhibition. In each month, there are different lunar phases depending on the season, and the yin and yang energy within them is the original energy of all things and operates according to the laws of nature.
The natural law of all things being created, growing, declining, and disappearing. From the energy of yin and yang, the changes in the Five Elements take shape in material form. It is the energy of yin and yang that causes changes in the five elements, and although their appearances differ, their roots remain the same.
In the organic worldview, water and fire form a yin and yang relationship, and the harmony between these two energies manifests as wood and gold. The yin and yang energies move the heavens and the earth, the heavenly stems represent energy, and the earthly branches represent form quality. Yang represents energy while yin represents form in the Five Elements theoryFrom a more detailed perspective, all changes occur within the structure of yin and yang, where energy qi gradually transforms into physical form. In harmony with these two axes, the sky and the earth, as well as the energy of yin and yang, are vertically connected, and the earth's shape and the energy of yin and yang are horizontally connected, and all things are created and disappear in harmony.
In terms of earthly energy, the five elements represent the four directions—east, west, south, and north—forming a spatial concept of front and back, up and down, and left and right. On the other hand, the flow of the seasonal changes through the solar terms helps us understand how all things change over the course of a month. The moon is a temporal concept that reflects the will of the heavens, manifesting through daily changes, and it provides insight into environmental factors. As a result, the transformation of the five elements into energy (qi) and form (zhi) will become the ecological flow of nature. The energy of the heavenly stems contained within the earthly branches forms the foundation of all things.
Every person has a different destiny, but they all follow the laws of heaven, earth, and man. As well as determining the laws of all things, the energy of the moon plays an important role in fortune telling. A fortune teller uses the monthly cycle to reveal the will of the heavenly stems, which reveals the direction of one's life.
The change in the temperament of the monthly cycle establishes the meaning of the heavenly stems in the earthly branches by revealing the virtues of everything.
At this point, the day stem (日干) serves as an environmental factor that leads the flow of change. As described in Sim Hyo-cheom's "Japyeongjinjeon," the dragon god of the eight characters is determined by a person's monthly horoscope, and the nobility of a name is determined by the body cavity of the horoscope.
When judging good and bad fortune, the day stem plays a central role, and through this, a pattern according to the heavenly way is formed. According to the logic of Geukguk, usage is determined by the monthly period and destiny is discussed according to the flow of the month.
In Japangjinjeon, there is no clear explanation of Jijanggan. Therefore, the cosmological worldview of the yin-yang movement of the five elements should be viewed from the perspective of the natural principles contained within the monthly cycle. There is a need for excellence in quality, so we need to be able to produce it with equal measure of both Qi and Quality.
