As the need for precise energy performance analysis of actual buildings continues to grow, there is an increasing demand for realistic and accurate thermal performance verification of building envelopes based on on-site measurements. Prominent on-site methods for building envelope insulation performance measurement, such as HFM (Heat Flow Meter) and IRT (Infrared Thermography), have limitations as they require specific environmental conditions and recommend a measurement period of at least 3 days (72 hours) to over 7 days to confirm insulation performance. Furthermore, those existing methods primarily focus on wall structures without thermal bridge to represent the thermal transmittance of the wall. In cases where different structures, such as window-wall assemblies, constitute a single envelope, it is essential to consider changes in heat flow due to structural interactions and the impact of heat exchange. Therefore, in this study, two models are proposed to analyze thermal performance. The first model aims to shorten the on-site measurement period for walls by describing the measured heat flow pattern and deriving the thermal transmittance through optimization by the measured data, while the second model quantitatively analyzes heat transfer rates occurring at junctions in window-wall assembly. The building envelope thermal transmittance analysis model was constructed by optimizing the thermal conductivity of the components that make up the envelope, and it could describe the heat flow pattern of the entire measurement period by the model that had been fitted with limited measured data. The developed model showed the ability to describe the heat flow pattern measured on-site, numerical reproducibility, and the potential to shorten the measurement period by approximately 65~80% compared to the minimum measurement period of 3 days (72 hours) specified by ISO 9869-1. The thermal bridge of joint analysis model for window-wall assemblies is a new analytical tool for immediate and quantitative thermal bridge analysis on-site. This model estimates the insulation performance of window-wall joints by repeatedly describing the surface temperatures of thermal images captured on-site. Results confirm that the developed model demonstrates high accuracy at the level of existing Finite Element Method (FEM) based analysis tools and is capable of rapid calculations in less than one second. Chamber tests were performed to verify the practicality of the model by describing thermal images for different insulation performance levels, and on-site testing confirmed that surface temperature around window-wall joints could be repeatedly described using the model to verify the insulation performance level of joint. In this study, a wall physical model is proposed using Digital Twin, and an optimization method is adopted to select the variables that best describe the field measured results while varying the physical properties of the main wall members. In the two topics of wall thermal transmittance and window-wall joint thermal performance analysis, the measurement reproducibility was confirmed by the model optimization technique. The significance of using Digital-Twin for wall field measurement is that it significantly reduces the time for thermal transmittance measurement, which requires long time measurement in the field, and enables quantification of joint performance in the absence of quantitative evaluation technology for window-wall joints.
