The polarization of demand in the traditional music performance market has intensified, and only the performances of traditional performing arts organizations exposed to mass media such as TV and broadcasting mobilize meaningful audiences, while most other traditional performing arts organizations rely on government support projects. This study, conducted in the light of these problems, raises the need to improve the self-sustainability of traditional performing arts organizations. The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze whether the characteristics of SNS marketing of traditional performing arts organizations affect brand attitudes and recommendation intentions using SNS marketing, and to increase recommendation intentions through SNS marketing using traditional performing arts contents, thereby fostering the self-sustainability of traditional performing arts organizations.
To fulfill the purpose of this study, SNS marketing characteristics of traditional performing arts organizations were derived as informational, interactive, and playful, and expert interviews were conducted to examine the theoretical concepts of brand attitude and recommendation intention and to secure theoretical validity. Through the expert interviews, we defined the main consumption content as traditional performing arts content when promoting traditional performing arts organizations using SNS, and identified the characteristics of SNS marketing in traditional performing arts content. We also found that traditional performing arts organizations act as brands and conduct branding through SNS, which enables consumers to have brand attitudes toward traditional performing arts organizations. Experts were interviewed to determine what brand attitudes and recommendation intentions mean for traditional performing arts organizations, and a survey was conducted among consumers in their 10s and 50s who had been exposed to traditional performing arts contents of traditional performing arts organizations through SNS to confirm the theoretical validity. The statistical resultsconfirmed that SNS marketing characteristics informativeness, interactivity, and playfulness have a significant effect on brand attitude. In addition, brand attitude affects recommendation intention, and SNS marketing characteristics informativeness, interactivity, and playfulness have a significant effect on recommendation intention. Finally, the mediating effect of brand attitude on the relationship between SNS marketing characteristics and recommendation intention was valid, and all hypotheses were accepted, confirming the validity of this research model and the influence of SNS marketing characteristics, brand attitude, and recommendation intention of traditional performing arts organizations from the perspective of consumers.
Based on these expert interviews and statistical analysis, this study suggests practical suggestions for traditional performing arts organizations to implement SNS marketing.
First, build a relationship between traditional performing arts organizations and consumers by encouraging consumers to visit traditional performing arts organizations SNS accounts regularly and utilizing ‘events’ that can stimulate consumers word-of-mouth and increase recommendation intentions. Second, increase the likelihood of algorithm exposure through continuous and regular SNS operation, and as information about traditional performing arts organizations accumulates through SNS, provide satisfactory information to existing consumers who use traditional performing arts organizations, SNS to attract them continuously, and provide credibility to new consumers. Third, by strategically using Instagram's feature feeds, releases, stories, and highlights, the organization should increase the immersive experience of consumers, and interaction through direct participation of consumers should lead to social media expression methods such as hearts, comments, and shares to greatly increase the impact of social media.
This study verified the validity of the proposed research model by conducting a marketing study focused on traditional performing arts organizations, rather than a study to identify the problems of government-supported programs that have been studied in the traditional performing arts field, and is expected to be useful in both academic and practical terms in that it shows the conceptual importance of SNS marketing characteristics, brand attitudes, and recommendation intentions in the traditional performing arts field and suggests practical strategies for traditional performing arts organizations to implement SNS marketing.
