News of constant safety accidents by power plant workers every year
continues to be treated as an important social issue. Although both the
government and business owners have paid a lot of attention and
effort to reduce the accident rate in the industrial sector, Korea's
accident death rate is two to three times higher than the average of
major OECD countries. The necessity of safety and health education
using VR is increasing day by day as virtual reality technology has
developed in the huge wave of the 4th industrial revolution.
Accordingly, this study suggested the activation of efficient safety and
health education by comparing and analyzing cramming safety and
health education under the existing Occupational Safety and Health
Act and experiential safety education using VR.
This study was conducted on the S power plant of KOMIPO. In fact,
after conducting conventional injectable safety and health education for
workers working at power plants and safety experience education
using VR, the concentration, field suitability, and educational effect of
each education were identified and analyzed through a survey.
According to the main survey results, first, the concentration of
education increased by 11.7% from the previous education, which was
interesting throughout the VR safety experience education, and the
concentration of attention increased, resulting in a high concentration
on education. This is a part that reveals the limitations of existing
repetitive and cramming lecture education, and VR safety education
with excellent concentration is suitable at power plant sites. Second, it
was found that VR safety education was 11.37% higher in terms of
the reality suitability of education, reflecting the risks and situations of
the field well. This can be interpreted as meaning that risk factors in
the field are better communicated to workers. Third, the effect of
education can be seen as more effective in preventing safety accidents
within the power plant site as VR safety education rose 11.03%.
Taking these results together, the actual effect of safety and health
education has been proven by changing safety awareness and
improving safety accident response ability after safety experience
education using VR.
To summarize the results, the concentration of safety experience
education using VR increased by 11.7%, the reality suitability of
education increased by 11.37%, and the effect of education increased
by 11.03%, which increased satisfaction after VR safety experience
education by a total of 11.37%.
Based on the analysis of this study, it is expected that safety
experience education using VR in the power generation industry will
increase the effectiveness of safety and health education at power
plant sites and reduce the disaster rate. In addition, it is hoped that
the establishment of VR safety experience education at the power
plant site will raise workers' safety awareness and further establish a
safety culture throughout the domestic industry.
