부모의 양육불안과 유아의 정서지능 관계에서 부모-자녀 상호작용의 매개효과: 자기-상대방효과를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 부모의 양육불안이 유아의 정서지능에 미치는 영향에 대하여 부모-자녀 상호작용의 매개효과를 검증하는 것이다. 자기-상대방 상호의존성모형(Actor-Partner Interdependence Model [APIM])을 활용하여 부모의 양육불안이 부모-자녀 상호작용에 미치는 자기효과와 상대방효과를 탐색하고, 유아의 정서지능에 미치는 영향력을 확인하고자 하였다.
이러한 연구 목적을 위해 연구자는 서울 및 수도권 지역에 위치한 어린이집 50곳에 재원 중인 만 5세 유아의 아버지와 어머니 396쌍을 대상으로 아버지 자신이 지각한 양육불안과 아버지-자녀 상호작용, 어머니 자신이 지각한 양육불안과 어머니-자녀 상호작용을 측정하고, 유아교사가 지각한 유아의 정서지능을 통합하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 자료의 분석을 위해 SPSS 23.0과 AMOS 23.0을 이용하였으며, 기술통계, 대응표본 t검정, 상관관계, 이항측정모형 및 자기-상대방 상호의존성모형, 구조방정식모형을 분석하고, 부트스트래핑(bootstrapping) 방식을 적용하여 간접효과의 유의성을 검증하였다.
이 연구의 주요 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아버지와 어머니의 양육불안은 서로 유의한 관련이 있으며, 어머니가 지각한 양육불안이 아버지가 지각한 양육불안보다 더 높다. 둘째, 아버지의 양육불안과 어머니의 양육불안이 아버지-자녀 상호작용과 어머니-자녀 상호작용에 부적 영향을 미치는 자기효과와 상대방효과가 유의하다. 셋째, 아버지와 어머니의 양육불안은 유아의 정서지능에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 아버지-자녀 상호작용과 어머니-자녀 상호작용을 통해 간접의 영향을 미친다.
이 연구에서는 부모-자녀 상호작용이 부모의 양육불안과 유아의 정서지능의 관계를 매개하였다. 유아는 부모와의 관계를 통해 자신의 정서지능을 발달시키는데, 양육의 기본인 돌봄과 사회화의 기능 면에서 보았을 때, 부모는 유아기 자녀가 자신의 정서를 인식하고 조절하며 사회적으로 수용 가능한 방식으로 표현하는 정서 사회화의 과정을 유아 가까이에서 지원하고 안내하는 역할을 하기 때문이다. 이는 유아기 자녀와 부모의 상호작용이 유아의 정서지능 발달에 중요함을 시사한다. 또한 이 연구는 부모의 양육불안, 이러한 양육불안이 자기뿐 아니라 상대방의 부모-자녀 상호작용에 미치는 영향, 그리고 가족체계 안에서 유아기 자녀의 정서지능에 대한 부모의 양방향적인 영향까지 고려하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 다만, 적절한 양육행동 개입을 위해 부모의 양육상황에서 일어나는 근원적인 문제의 측정에 초점을 두고 횡단적인 방식으로 접근하였다는 점은 이 연구의 제한점으로 남는다. 이후에는 이 연구에서 나타난 결과를 기반으로 시간적 특성을 반영한 연구가 시행될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to verify how parent-child interaction mediates the effects of parental anxiety on young children’s emotional intelligence. This study aimed to explore the actor effect and the partner effect of parental anxiety on parent-child interaction by using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM). It also aimed to verify its influences on young children’s emotional intelligence.
This study measured the parental anxiety and father-child interaction perceived by fathers, and parental anxiety and mother-child interaction perceived by mothers. The sample included 396 fathers and mothers of five-year-old children who attend any one of 50 daycare centers located in Seoul & the capital area. The results were analyzed by integrating the young children’s emotional intelligence as perceived by early childhood teachers. Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. Statistical methods used for data analysis were the descriptive statistics, paired t-test, correlation, dyadic measurement model and actor-partner interdependence model, as well as the structural equation model. The significance of indirect effects was verified by applying the bootstrapping method.
The statistical analyses revealed the following. First, the parental anxiety of the father and that of the mother are significantly related to each other, and the parental anxiety perceived by mothers is higher than that perceived by fathers. Second, the negative actor effect and the partner effect of father’s parental anxiety and mother’s parental anxiety on father-child interaction and mother-child interaction, respectively, are significant. Third, the father’s parental anxiety and mother’s parental anxiety have indirect effects on the process of father-child interaction and mother-child interaction affecting young children’s emotional intelligence.
In this study, the parent-child interaction mediated the relationship between parental anxiety and young children’s emotional intelligence. Young children develop their emotional intelligence through the relationships they have with their parents. Through the functions of care and socialization, parents can support and guide the process of emotional socialization in which their young children perceive, control, and express their own emotions in a socially acceptable manner. This implies the importance of interactions between young children and their parents for the development of the young children’s emotional intelligence. This study is significant when considering the effects of parental anxiety on parent-child interaction of actor and partner, and bidirectional effects of parents on young children’s emotional intelligence within the family system. However, this study used the cross-sectional approach focusing on the measurement of fundamental problems with parenting situations for proper parenting behavioral intervention, which is a limitation. In the future, research can examine temporal characteristics.
