This study examines the difference between expectations for the role of village education community activists and their actual performance, and achieves stable operation and qualitative growth of Gyeonggi Dream School based on an understanding of the roles and duties of village education community activists. The purpose is to come up with meaningful implications so that it is possible. Despite the fact that it has been 6 years since the Gyeonggi Dream School, the most important project of the village education community, was implemented, the need for research was recognized as there was no stipulated role and duties for the operating entity.
The research question set to achieve the purpose of this study is:
First, what is the difference between the role expectation and the actual performance role of the activist who is operating the Gyeonggi Dream School (dream school that students visit) among the village education communities? Second, what support is needed for competency development of village education community activists?
To this end, in this study, 10 staff members of the "Students' Dream School" active in Bucheon were selected through snowball sampling. The measurement tool for this study is the in-depth interview questionnaire, and in-depth interviews were conducted using a mixture of face-to-face and non-face-to-face methods in the Corona 19 situation. The collected data was derived through qualitative analysis.
As a result of the study through in-depth interviews with village education community activists, the management of Gyeonggi Dream School, the roles of planners, counselors, coordinators, and organizers were selected as priority roles. The actual roles played were diverse, including planners, coordinators, organizers, and instructors. The role that showed the greatest difference between expectation and reality was the 'counselor'. They recognized the necessity of the role of a counselor according to the developmental situation of adolescent learners, but in reality, they met the learner as a teacher, not as a counselor. These differences arise from the lack of individual competencies, poor understanding of village education community activists, and institutional causes.
Institutional supplementation was needed for village education community activists to ensure stable operation and sustainability of Dream School.
First, it provides administrative support and space to village education community activists through an intermediate organization(space) for revitalization of the village education community.
Second, through the network of village education community activists, it is possible to continuously strengthen capacity.
Third, there is a need for compensation for the value of public-interest work for village education community activists. In addition, an institutional supplementary device is prepared so that village education community activists can be converted into experts and recognized.
Lastly, we support the stable operation of Gyeonggi Dream School by ensuring sustainability, not a short-term project. Education is called the Hundred Years Zone, and it is hoped that the qualitative growth of village education community activists and the revitalization of a sustainable dream school will be achieved through a long-term perspective rather than a short-term achievement.
