    The present study was designed to explore how workplace counselors experience cultural diversity and how they empower and advocate clients who are oppressed, discriminated, and unprivileged in work settings. For the purpose of the study, a total of 15 workplace counselors participated in an in-depth interview and the data were analyzed by using the consensual qualitative research method. As results, there were 2 domains, 6 categories and 37 subcategories driven from the data.
    For the first domain, ‘experience of workplace counselors’ cultural diversity’, there were two categories including ‘phenomena of privilege, oppression, and discrimination’ and ‘influence of privilege, oppression, and discrimination’.
    ‘Phenomena of privilege, oppression and discrimination’ experienced by workplace counselors in directly or indirectly was appeared as follows: ‘Opportunities vary by depending on education background and school of origin’, ‘High-ranking people give the coercive work orders’, ‘Women experience the glass ceiling’, ‘Acquiring disadvantages due to managers’ misunderstanding of counseling’, ‘Getting disadvantages or are bullied when you make your own voice’, ‘Many people with more money get more opportunities’, ‘You are less cared when you don’t have a good relationship with your manager’, ‘Women are evaluated for work ability by her appearance’, ‘Work is restricted for person with disability’, ‘Be treated unfairly for people who are not regular workers’, and ‘Underestimated when people come from local regions’.
    ‘The influence of privilege, oppression and discrimination’ was appeared as follows: ‘Being not aware of the privileges by themselves’, ‘Justifying their oppressive and discriminatory behaviors’, ‘Abusing the privileges to gain more privileges’, ‘Being withdrawn and helpless under oppression’, ‘Trying to change or quit the job’, ‘Releasing feelings through gossiping or leisure’, ‘Being more sensitive of deprivation’, and ‘Keeping distance from discriminatory people’.
    For the second domain, ‘experience of workplace counselors’ multicultural social justice counseling’, there were four categories identified including ‘activities of empowerment and advocacy’, ‘experiences in the process of empowerment and advocacy’, ‘experiences as outcomes of empowerment and advocacy’, and ‘preparation and helping needed for empowerment and advocacy’.
    ‘Activities of empowerment and advocacy’ were appeared as follows: ‘Staying with the client by supporting and enduring’, ‘Empowering internal strength by helping clients to find own strength and resources’, ‘Providing helpful information or assisting development of work ability’, ‘Helping clients to make and practice own voice’, ‘Empowering the organization’s capabilities through preventive educations’, ‘Providing professional opinions about the client’s symptoms to the manager or human resources team’, and ‘Connecting clients with supporting resources’.
    ‘Experience in the process of empowerment and advocacy’ indicated as follows: ‘Experiencing lack of knowledge and skills for advocacy’, ‘Reflecting on one's attitude toward clients’, ‘Disappointing about the fact that the conditions for empowerment and advocacy are not prepared’, and ‘Misunderstanding about counselors as problem solvers for HR’.
    ‘Experience as outcomes of empowerment and advocacy’ was identified as follows: ‘Recognizing the importance of counselors’ role’, ‘Experiencing pride as counselors because of positive outcomes’, and ‘Involving more actively in advocating clients with confidence’.
    ‘Preparation and helping needed for empowerment and advocacy’ was confirmed as follows: ‘Acquiring the knowledge of multicultural social justice through education or workshops’, ‘Cultivating the ability to see individuals in a social-system context’, ‘Learning various counseling cases through research publications and books’, and ‘Collecting information about related institutions and policies’.
    The study explored the phenomena related to cultural diversity through workplace counselors’ perspectives. In addition, it provided deeper understanding of how workplace counselors empower and advocate their clients under unprivileged, oppressed, and discriminated situations. This study will provide opportunities to educate or train related to cultural diversity and multicultural social justice for counselors or counselor educators. Lastly, the limitations and implications of the study were discussed.
