四柱命理學의 合에 관한 硏究

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인간은 모두 자신의 운명에 대해 궁금해 한다. 많은 사람들은 알 수 없는 앞날을 불안해하며, 미래에 대해 예측학이나 예측술 또는 종교의 역할에서 대안을 찾아 위안과 안정을 이루려고 한다.
예로부터 동서양을 막론하고 점술(占術) 혹은 역학(易學)의 체계를 발전시켜왔다. 과학적 이성이 모든 것을 해명하는 현대사회에서도 마찬가지이다. 과학기술이 발전하면 할수록 인간의 삶의 불확정성 역시 함께 높아지기 때문이다.
우리는 하늘로부터 얻게 되는 시간의 주기, 질서와 대칭, 그리고 그 하늘을 알아차림으로써 과학의 토대와 우주와 그 안에 있는 우리를 바라보는 시각을 갖게 되었다. 시간은 우리 앞에, 앞으로 올 날들과 지금 막 지나간 날들이 일렬로 늘어서 있다. 시간은 그 의미를 이해하고 측정하기 위해 믿을 수 있고 반복적인 천체주기에 의존한다. 정신적으로 우리는 자신이 수많은 날들의 질서정연한 연속선상 어딘가에 있다고 본다. 그리하여 시간의 주기에서 질서와 대칭, 그리고 자연의 예측가능성을 발견하였다. 그렇게 함으로써 과거를 평가하고 미래를 계획한다.
이렇듯 인간에게는 정해진 운명이 있으며, 출생과 동시에 출생연월일시의 구성으로 사주팔자(四柱八字)를 갖게 된다. 이 사주팔자의 간지(干支)와 대운(大運)이나 세운(歲運)의 간지가 만나서 합·충·형·해·파(合沖刑害破)가 작동하면 사주가 동(動)하게 되고 우리는 비로소 사주를 파악할 수 있게 된다.
합충형해파는 사주팔자 전체를 묶고 푸는 기제로써 심오한 이치를 준비하고 있다. 합충형해파는 사주원국과 대운·세운의 만남에서 오행의 생극제화(生剋制化)와 함께 사주를 분석하고 파악하는데 중요한 해석 인자로 활용한다. 합충형해파 중에서 합은 사주를 움직이게 하는 시작점이다. 이런 합(合)은 기본적으로 묶는 역할을 하는데, 합하는 오행을 자유롭게 쓰지 못하게 하여 답답함을 주거나, 중화상 미약하고 귀중한 것을 보호하여 가치를 높여 준다.
합(合)이란 음양과 오행이 다른 간지(干支) 간의 기운이 서로 어울리고 결합하여 또 다른 기운과 작용을 만들어 내는 것을 말한다. 합이 되면 본래 간지 오행의 성질이 변하는 경우가 있고, 때로는 합으로 서로를 묶어놓고 있는 상태가 되기도 하며, 또는 한쪽 오행의 세력이 강해지거나 아예 전혀 다른 오행을 생산(生産)하는 경우가 있다.
천간합은 지구를 회전시키는 필수적인 요소이며, 두 개의 천간이 합을 통하여 하나의 오행으로 화(化)하게 된다. 이것은 가장 이상적인 합이라고 하며 정신적인 끌림을 뜻한다. 지지는 천간과 결합하여 지구의 생장소멸(生長消滅)과 순환을 음양오행의 원리에 의거 상징화시킨 것이다. 지지합은 십이지지 중에서 두, 세 글자씩 합하여 새로운 기운으로 변하는 것을 말한다.
어느 명(命)이든 불행을 극복하거나 행운을 놓쳐버릴 수 있는 여지가 있는 것이니, 그것을 밝히고 슬기롭게 대처해 나갈 수 있는 지혜를 주는 것이 명리학(命理學)이라고 할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

A human being is always concerned about his fate, knowing not what his future holds for him. Therefore, they have tried to resolve it by recourse to various available means such as going to fortune-tellers or other religious organizations.
In order to successfully tackle the issue from ancient times on from east to west, even in the science-omnipotent age, the art of divination or science of changes has been devised, since man’s uncertain state of mind cannot be fully resolved by the material aspects of life alone.
How could this be possible? By means of grasping the truths revealed to us from heaven concerning a time period, order and symmetry of the universe, through which we could evaluate the past and at the same time predict the future events.
Man is subject to one’s predestined fate, which we could foretell by means of one’s birth date through “the Art of the Four Pillars and Eight Characters” (四柱八字). That is, when “the sexagenary cycle” (干支), the great fortune or the luck of times of 四柱八字 join together, the resulting five-combined elements of “joining, separating, conflict, damage, breaking” (合沖刑害破) operate to enable us to foretell the future events.
The five elements of 合沖刑害破 are a mechanism that occupies an important place in the function of 四柱八字, as we are able to analyze the Four Pillars with the help of the “creation, destruction, control, change” (生剋制化) principle of the Five Elements (五行) through its combined force of the great fortune and the luck of times. Of the 合沖刑害破 elements, the joining element (合) works as the start point of the operation of 四柱八字 as its primary function is basically a combination of the elements, whereby all the elements may work together smoothly for an optimal operation.
The joining element (合) functions to enable the Yin-Yang (negative and positive energies) and the Five Elements to let the various energies of the sexagenary cycle to work together harmoniously to produce the desired effects. It should, however, be pointed out that when those elements are combined together, it may bring about the following various results: 1. changing the original Five Elements of the sexagenary cycle, 2. stay in the state of being locked together with each other, 3. strengthening of one part of the Five Pillars over the others, or 4. even the tendency of producing an entirely different form of the Five Pillars.
The combined Celestial Stem is the indispensable element for the revolution of the earth in that the two celestial stems are combined to produce one Five Elements, which hence is called the most optimal combination and spiritual attraction. The earthly branch (地支) is combined with the celestial stem to symbolize the growth and extinction and rotation of the earth in accordance with the Yin-Yang Five Elements of Principles. The combined earthly branch (地支合) means the new energy transformed from combination of two or three letters from the twelve earthly branches.
What is our life? We may either overcome misfortune or fail to take advantage of good luck. Consequently, the four pillars of destiny has become the art of dealing prudently with this kind of life problem.
