LILLIAN TOO의 비보풍수 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

풍수지리를 최초 접하는 사람들은 어렵다는 표현을 많이 한다. 이는 중국에서 유래되어 한국 신라 시대부터 내려온 풍수서적은 대부분이 한자로 표기되어 한글을 기반으로 생활하는 현대 한국인으로써는 그 의미가 내포하고 있는 의미를 쉽게 이해하기 어려운 실정이다.
릴리언 투의 풍수에 대한 영문판인 󰡔THE COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO FENG SHUI󰡕은 동양적 문화에 대한 기본적 지식이 없는 서양인들이 잘 이해 할 수 있도록 서술형으로 작성되어, 누구나 풍수를 쉽게 풀어내 세계적으로 풍수를 선도 하고 있다.
현 우리의 풍수체계는 어려운 한자와 미신화 된 문화적 결핍과 일부에 의한 어려운 단어를 바탕으로 전파되다 보니 우리의 풍수가 널리 퍼져 나가지 못하고 전문가들만 향유하는 풍수가 나타내고 있는 대부분의 이론은 현대생활을 하고 있는 우리와는 상당히 이질감이 있다. 하지만 릴리언 투는 풍수가 의미하는 기본적인 개념을 재해석하여 현대화함으로 다시금 풍수의 활성화를 도모하고 있다고 생각이 된다. 현대적 생활에 맞추어진 새로운 단어와 방법론을 창출함으로 기본은 충실하나 의미 전달과 활용 방법을 새롭게 한 릴리언 투의 풍수론은 쉽게 풍수에 대해 접근해 볼 수 있는 하나의 지침을 제공한다.
릴리언 투의 저서 󰡔THE COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO FENG SHUI󰡕에서는 기존의 중국 풍수와는 달리 현대화된 생활환경에서 매우 저렴한 비용으로 생활 속에서 좋지 않을 것을 고칠 수 있도록 해주며 경험할 수 있는 실용적 풍수에 많은 초점을 두고 있으며 이러한 방법론은 풍수의 세계적 전파에도 도움을 준다. 이처럼 릴리언 투가 책에서 의도 하고자 하는 것을 현대적 비보풍수라고 할 수 있다. 풍수원리에서는 풍수적 조화를 이루려고 자연을 변형하는 것이 가능하다는 이론에서 있으며, 비보풍수는 자연환경의 구성 여건에 부족함이 있을 때 인위적으로 환경을 구축, 보완하여 자연환경과 조화를 이루는 것이며 이는 구체적으로는 지형을 보수하고 풍수를 개량하는 형태로 나타나는데 비보풍수는 현실적인 풍수적 방책이기도 했다. 더구나 우리나라의 풍수는 중국 달리 좁은 국토 면적을 기반으로 했기 때문에 좁은 국토의 병든 땅을 고쳐 이용하려 했던 도선선사의 비보풍수가 출발점이다. 릴리언 투는 생활 속 비보의 개념을 많이 접목하여 생활 속에서 이를 응용하고 실천함으로 풍수의 저변을 확대를 하였다 우리의 도선 비보풍수는 릴리언 투의 풍수보다 더 방대하고 포괄적이다. 그러나 근래 대만 말레시아로부터 수입되는 풍수를 우리는 접하고 있는지 모른다. 이에 릴리언 투의 풍수비보와 우리 문화 속에 녹아 있는 비보풍수를 비교하여 우리의 비보 풍수가 생활 속에 실천 될 수 있는 실천의 풍수로 변화 되어야 한다.
릴리언 투의 저서 󰡔THE COMPLETE ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO FENG SHUI󰡕은 생활의 환경을 분리 하여 그것에 맞는 풍수 개념과 독화살로 명명된 나쁜 기를 없앨 수 있는 가장 비용이 들지 않는 방법론까지 제시하였다. 현대화된 도시나 우리의 주거 환경은 다양한 이유로 쉽게 변경하지 못하는 것이 현대를 살아가는 우리의 처지이다. 따라서 릴리언 투의 풍수 확대의 가장 큰 방법론인 풍수의 재해석을 통한 현실과 어우러지는 한국 비보풍수로의 변화를 기대하며 릴리언 투의 저서를 분석하여 쉬운 풍수, 실천할 수 있는 풍수를 실현하였으면 한다.
따라서 논문을 통해 풍수를 접하는 많은 이들이 좀 더 쉽게 입문하길 바라며 릴리언 투의 생활 속 풍수처럼 우리의 풍수도 생활에서 사용될 수 는 다양한 비보 풍수를 통해 확대되길 바란다.
또한 풍수라는 개념이 없는 서양에 풍수의 개념을 널리 전파하고 있는 릴리언 투의 풍수의 세계화는 현시대에 풍수의 명맥을 간신히 어가고 있는 우리가 고유하게 간직하고 있는 비보풍수의 저변확대 부분으로 이어져 현대적 재해석을 통한 국내 풍수의 활성화 및 세계화가 이루어져야 하겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

People who are new to Feng Shui geography often perceive it as a difficult subject. This is a situation that stems from the delivery of Feng Shui. Most of Feng Shui manuscripts that are originated from China and then was brought to Silla were written by Chinese characters. it is challenging for modern Korean who use Hangeul on a daily basis.
However, the English version of Feng Shui, “ The Complete Illustrated Guide to Feng Shu” is written in a narrative form, so that people from western countries who do not have a basic knowledge of Asian culture can easily understand it. Moreover, it facilitates a better understanding of Feng Shui to everyone world widely by simplifying it. Thus, I’m confident to say that this book is a pioneer of Feng Shui.
Yet, I believe that Feng Shui was unable to spread widely, and had no choice but to remain solely to experts and related people, as current Feng Shui system is spread through difficult Chinese characters and unfamiliar terms that are selected by few people. Deficiency of culture that has become superstitious also plays a part of it.
Also, most of the theories of Feng Shui are quite different from those of us in modern life, but it is thought that Lillian Too is re-interpreting and modernizing the basic concept of Feng Shui to activate it again. Along with Lillian Too’s methodology that is focusing on basics, but also renewed the delivery of Feng Shui by creating new words that are fitted to modern society, I would like to develop a new approach that allows us easy access to Feng shui.
Also, unlikely to original Feng Shui from China, Lillian Too’s book “The Complete Illustrated Guide to Feng Shui” puts more focus on practice of Feng Shui. Similar to Bibo Feng Shui that was performed by ‘Doseon’ in the Silla period, Lillian Too expanded the base of Feng Shui by applying and practicing it in real life.
In a way, the culture of the Bibo Feng Shui that has been handed down since the Silla era has disappeared, and we can not assure that if we are facing the Feng Shui that are coming from Malaysia, or Taiwan. I hope that our Feng Shui culture will become more practical so that it can be actually used in our living like Lillian Too’s.
“The Complete Illustrated Guide to Feng Shui” by Lillian too, presents the notion of Feng Shui and the most inexpensive methodology to eliminate the bad Chi named “poison arrow” by separating the environment of life. It is our current situation in modern times that the environment cannot be easily changed for various reasons. Therefore, I expect the change of Korean Bibo Feng Shui, which is in harmony with the reality through the reinterpretation of Feng Shui, and the largest methodology for expanding the Feng Shui of Lillian Too
Therefore, I hope that many people who come across Feng Shui through the thesis will enter Feng Shui easily, and our Feng Shui to become as practical as Lillian Too’s Feng Shui in life, through a variety of invisible Feng Shui that can be used in life.
Also, one of the research objectives is the activation of domestic and global Feng Shui by modernized re-interpretation that stems from realized globalization of Feng Shi by Lillian Too, which is widely spreading the concept of Feng Shui to the western countries where have no concept of Feng Shui.
