In this study I analyzed the western Astrology theory and how it relates to the images of tarot cards. I compared the personality characteristics of the 12 zodiac signs and 10th planet in astrology and the images of tarot cards.
In today’s society, constellation research is not only developed in science, but also in various fields such as architecture, design, character illustration and so on. Western astrology theory, which is actively used to distinguish a person's temperament and propensity, is steadily being reviewed and developed based on scientific form. Unlike astrology, however, tarot cards are always used as a tool to read aspects of intuition and unconscious thought through each image of cards. Before analyzing a person’s personality and temperament through tarot cards, I look at myself in the image of cards.
Because of the mechanical nature of tarot cards, it is sometimes dismissed as shamanism due to the similar use of cards to interpret a problem situation. There is also a tendency to disparage the aspect of unconscious action as opposed to objective logic with the preconception that the unexplained must be opposite of science.
Because of the implicit meaning contained in the symbols on the tarot cards, tarot counselors must have a firm foundation in philosophical theories. In addition, we should explore social phenomena theoretically so that it can be reinterpreted from a positive perspective which conveys its value in the future. Currently, the study of tarot cards in Korea is not only linked to psychology but also to the study of four pillars of destiny(saju-myungrihak) but they are just a tool in future forecast counseling. It is difficult to make the best use of the theory of tarot cards, because of the difficulty of collecting data and the origin is not clear. This is further hindered by people thinking of it as just a hobby and media thinking of it as entertainment.
In this study, we will prioritize the consideration of the implications and philosophical images through the symbolic responses of the cosmology and tarot cards, which include the theory of astrology based on Western mysticism and astrology.
In this study, I will prioritize the consideration of the implications and philosophical images of tarot cards and the view of the universe with the theory of astrology that is based on western mysticism and the belief that our lives are affected by the movements of the stars. I want to establish a theory for using western astrology as a theological foundation for using images of tarot cards. And also I like to show that tarot cards can change someone’s curiosity about themselves to a curiosity about the universe. I will also review how tarot cards can develop when they utilize western astrological theory. I also want to emphasize the importance to study western fortunetelling, religion and thought in order to have a theological approach to tarot cards based on their development in Korea and other countries. I hope this research will be the basis for overcoming the limitations of tarot card consultation imposed by enthusiasts.
This research will serve for the first time as a stepping stone for the study of tarot by attempting to discuss the metaphorical and figurative symbolic image of tarot card, which developed through its own astrology through philosophical and scientific theories over a long period of time, as an academic connotation.
