Considerably practical number of the classical cases of Saju-Myeongrihak Theory used up to the present times have been found inappropriate to flow of the times. Therefore, considering the temporal characteristics of the practical cases written in the books of the classical myeongri, the author of the thesis has studied theoretical changes of Saju-Myeongrihak Theory with the purpose to develop the theory of Saju-Myeongrihak.
In the academic circle of Myeongrihak, “Yeonhaejapyeong”, “Gungtongbogam”, “Japyeongjinjeon” and “Jeokcheonsucheonmi” would be called 4 great classics of Myeongrihak Theory. The author of this thesis started this study based on the above 4 great classics. The four books with various theories and practical saju cases would have more than 1,000 practical cases of saju.
Practical cases of human destinies in the times would have numerous stories and situations of the people who lived the times. Thus, we could know how the people of the cases would live their lives in their historical space and temporal flows through the practical cases of Saju. Therefore, we could look in the temporal situations of the times on the basis of the life trace of the historical real persons written in the books of practical cases and we can also analogize the temporal parts of the theory through the practical cases. The author of the thesis considered the relationship between social system of each time and Saju-Myeongrihak Theory through the practical cases of the applicable theory. Especially, as aforementioned, features of Saju-Myeongrihak Theory would be privatized by the privileged classes, which would be supported by the imperial examination system practiced for a long time.
Imperial examination would be continued for more than 1,300 years with the history of Saju-Myeongrihak Theory. Furthermore, imperial examination would be the gateway for rising in the world and gaining fame and the one and only route to rise in status. Without the route to rise in status through the imperial examination, people at that time could never dream change of their destiny. Theoretical system of the classical Myeongrihak is composed of bureaucracy centered on government dignitary through the status system of imperial examination. In this case, the government dignity would be the temporal feature strengthening importance of the public office. Theoretical system of the classical Myeongrihak could be continued for a long time through the gradual systematical change of the times. Considering the books of classical Myeongrihak written by the noblemen in public office, it could be assumed that the theory of Myeongrihak would be learning for a special class. In addition, the author of the thesis could found that the idealistic parts of the writers of Myeongrihak would be contained in the books. Idealistic revival of neo-Confucianism would have the same way of the academic systematization of Myeongrihak in the same time and the revival would have idealistic influence on the whole parts of writings of Myeongrihak. Therefore, the viewpoint of the author of the thesis showing Confucian thinking would be showed frequently in the interpretation of the practical cases of Myeongrihak Saju.
As aforementioned, the author of the thesis could read the precise phases of the times through the figures and names of the practical cases of Saju written in the classical books of Myeongrihak and found that social system of imperial examination would be together with the history of the classical Myeongrihak. In addition, it was found that the central idea of Confucianism would have much influence on the theoretical system of the Myeongrihak theory. Though this flow had slight change, the change would be progressed slow and steady throughout the long time of ten thousand. Change through the long time has been arranged with us as a fixed concept. Thus, the temporal characteristics of the practical cases of Saju in the four books of the classical Myeongrihak would imply that the viewpoint of the imperial examination in those days putting emphasis on social status would have different interpretation from the modern viewpoint of status change by flow of capital.
However, we study the classics because we should find out the precise living root of the classical Myeongrihak so that we can reinterpret the Myeongrihak theory of Saju according to the flow of modern times. Thus, we should exclude the out-of-date theories aggressively and develop more professional study through fusion with new and diverse areas. Only through appropriate change, the theory could survive and continue vital power. Creation of the future through reflection of the old will be the task of the Myeongrihak in 21st century.
