This study investigated the mediating effect of Rejection Sensitivity and Emotion Dysregulation and Early Maladaptive Schemes of Relationship Addiction. For this purpose, this study conducted self-report questionnaires targeting 446 college students (176 men students, 270 women students) in Daegu and Gyeongbuk provinces, online and offline, using the Early Maladaptive Scheme Scale, Relationship Addiction Scale, Rejection Sensitivity Scale, and Emotion Dysregulation Scale. In order to analyze the data, SPSS 22.0 was used for descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. Hayes(2018) Process 3.2 was used to verify the mediation effect and bootstrapping was used to verify the significance of the mediation effect
The results of this study are as follows.
First, the Early Maladaptive Scheme had a static correlation with Rejection Sensitivity, Emotion Dysregulation, and relationship addiction. This means that the more prevalent the Early Maladaptive Scheme is, the higher the possibility of Rejection Sensitivity, Emotion Dysregulation, and Relationship Addiction is.
Second, there was no mediating effect of Rejection Sensitivity in the effect of Early Maladaptive Scheme on Relationship Addiction. This means that Early Maladaptive Scheme had no effect on Relationship Addiction through the medium of Rejection Sensitivity.
Third, there was a mediating effect of Emotion Dysregulation in the effect of Early Maladaptive Scheme on Relationship Addiction. This means that Early Maladaptive Scheme has an effect on Relationship Addiction through Emotion Dysregulation.
Finally, it showed that in the process of the effect of the Early Maladaptive Scheme, Rejection Sensitivity and Emotion Dysregulation had a double mediation role. This means that Early Maladaptive Scheme has an effect on Relationship Addiction through Rejection Sensitivity and Emotion Dysregulation.
This study has significance in the fact that it expanded understanding of Relationship Addiction by determining the cognitive-emotional psychological factors relevant to Relationship Addiction. Therefore, it implies that an intervention that is focused on altering Malajusted Cognition, Rejection Sensitivity and Emotion Regulation will be effective.
