This study intends to explore the meaning of fourth industrial revolution and early childhood education perceived by early childhood teachers through a metaphor analysis.
350 teachers working in early childhood education centers located in Busan Metropolitan City were selected as the study object. Final analysis was conducted on the basis of 194 questionnaires which satisfied analysis requirements, and categorized them based on metaphorical expression and reasons thereof about fourth industrial revolution. The categorized items are: talent, play and creativity, co-existence, science, future of nation, and meaninglessness.
The outcomes showed a variety of early childhood teachers' recognition about fourth industrial revolution and early childhood education, and it is significant that they are able to provide basic data that guides future direction of early childhood education.
There are studies aiming participants from more diversified regions in the future needed, and it is reckoned that qualitative studies that investigate early childhood teachers' recognition about fourth industrial revolution more specifically should be conducted.
