한국어와 중국어의 담화표지 대조 연구 : '뭐', '왜'의 기능을 중심으로 = Comparative study of discourse markers in Korea and Chinese

국문 초록 (Abstract)

담화표지는 일상생활에서 자주 사용되는 언어 형식이다. 그것의 사용이 문장의 의미에 영향을 미치지 않을지라도 화자의 심리 상태, 의도 및 감정을 전달하는데 도움이 된다. 따라서 화자가 담화 표지를 적절하게 사용할 수 있는지 여부는 화자와 청자 간의 의사소통에 필수적이다. 담화표지를 올바르게 사용하면 두 당사자 간의 의사소통이 촉진되고, 적절하게 사용하지 않을 경우 그렇게 되면 의사소통에 장애가 된다.
담화표지는 한국어와 중국어에 많이 있으며, 그중에 많은 담화표지가 서로 대응한다. 그러나 서로 대응하는 담화표지도 다른 언어로 된 의미, 특징 및 기능은 다르다. 따라서 본문은 한·중 담화표지 ‘뭐’와 ‘왜’ 및 이들의 대응 중국어 표현 ‘什么’와 ‘怎么’를 연구의 대상으로 분석한다. 그들은 정의, 특성 및 화용적의 기능 관점에서 연구하였다.
본 논문은 5장으로 나누어 논의를 하였다.
제1장에서는 본 논문에 대한 연구 목적 및 필요성, 연구 대상 및 방법, 선행연구의 검토를 3가지로 제시하였다.
제2장에서는 한국어와 중국어의 담화표지의 정의 및 특성, 분류, 기능을 살펴보고, 양국 담화표지의 공통점과 차이점에 대해서 논술하였다.
제3장에서는 담화표지 ‘뭐’에 대하여 실제적으로 담화에서 어떻게 쓰이는가를 살펴보기 위해 한국 드라마 『태양의 후예』에서 나타난 예문을 연구대상으로 담화표지를 분석하여 이의 기능이 실현되고 있는지 논의하였다. 이와 함께 중국의 전문적인 한국 드라마 번역 사이트에서 번역한 드라마를 중심 연구 대상으로, 담화표지 ‘뭐’의 번역한 양상을 살펴 담화표지 ‘뭐’에 대한 이의 중국어 대응 표현 ‘什么’을 검토하였다. 드라마 대본 중에서 담화 기능을 갖는 ‘뭐’에 대해 담화 기능을 정리한 다음에, 드라마 번역을 통해 중국어 대응 표현을 정확하게 정리한다. 그리고 담화표지 '뭐'와 중국어 대응 표현 ‘什么’의 기능을 비교하여 공통점과 차이점을 밝혔다. 그 공통점은 문서적 기능보다 표현적 기능이 더 두드러지게 보인다. 그리고 독립된 발화로서 나타나는 경우에 선행 발화에 대한 놀라움을 표시하는 기능과 선행 발화의 내용을 이해 못함을 표시하는 기능을 가지고 있다. 또, 발화 안에서 독립적으로 나타나는 경우 화자의 부정적 태도를 표출하는 기능과 머뭇거림을 표시하는 기능과 발화 내용에 대한 불확실성을 표출하는 기능과 발화 약화 기능과 그리 청자의 행위에 대한 비판적 태도를 표출하는 기능 등 다섯 가지 기능이 있다. 마지막으로 발화문 안에서 다른 어휘나 표현과 결합하여 담화표지의 기능을 제시할 수 있다.
차이점은 다음과 같다. 발화 안에서 독립적으로 나타내는 경우에 한국어 ‘뭐’는 중국어 ‘什么’보다 화자의 심리 태도를 표출하는 기능을 더 두드러지게 한다. 그리고 담화표지 ‘뭐’는 발화 강조 기능, 초점화 기능, 발화 약화 기능을 가지고 있지만, 이와 대응하는 중국어 담화표지 ‘什么’는 발화 약화 기능만 가지고 있다. 두 담화표지 모두 단순 발어사의 기능과 얼버무림의 기능을 가지고 있지만, 한국어 ‘뭐’는 발화 안에서 독립적으로 나타날 때 이 기능을 제시할 수 있는 반면에 중국어 ‘什么’는 꼭 지시대명사와 결합하여야 그 기능을 제시할 수 있다.
제4장에서는 담화표지 '왜'에 대하여 기능적인 이유가 명시적으로 추론되기 쉬운 경우와 명시적으로 추론되기 어려운 경우의 두 가지를 분석하고 한국어 담화표지 ‘왜’와 중국어 대응 표현 '怎么'의 기능을 대조하여 공통점과 차이점을 연구했다. 그 공통점은 청자가 화자의 발화에 대한 질문이 있으나 구별할 수 없을 때 확인하는 기능과 자기의 불만 감정이나 태도를 표현하는 데 쓰는 반박의 기능, 발화 이의 제기 기능, 이해 불가의 심리 태도 기능을 가지고 있다. 마지막으로 화자가 청자에게 어떤 말이나 행위가 잘 이해가 안 되는 상황에 화자가 담화표지 ‘왜’를 사용하면서 자신의 놀라움 표시를 표현할 수 있는 기능이 있다.
차이점은 다음과 같다. 담화표지 ‘왜’는 화자가 청자의 발화 행위 때문에 자기의 부정한 태도를 사용하면서 표현하는 기대 부정의 태도 기능, 불괘감의 표출 기능, 시간 벌기 기능, 그리고 문장의 어떤 요소를 초점으로 만드는 초점적 기능이 있지만 중국어 대응표현 '怎么'는 이런 기능들이 없다.
제5장에서는 본 논문의 내용을 간략하게 정리하고 한국어와 중국어의 담화표지 기능에 대한 대조연구를 통해 담화표지 ‘뭐’와 ‘什么’, ‘왜’와 '怎么'의 공통점과 차이점을 발견하여 앞으로 한·중 학자들이 서로의 담화표지를 연구하는데 도움이 되고 불필요한 실수를 피할 수 있기를 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Discourse markers are linguistic forms which are often used in our daily lives. The use of it helps to deliver mental state, intension and emotion of speaker even though it does not affect meaning of sentences. Therefore, it is necessary for speaker to properly use discourse markers at communicating with listener. Proper uses of discourse markers promote well communication and it becomes obstacle at communication when improperly used.
There are many discourse markers in Korean and Chinese and many of them are correspond to each other. However those corresponding discourse markers have different meaning, feature and function in each languages.
This study has five chapters,
In chapter 1, Purpose and necessity of study, subject and method of study and preceding research analysis are suggested.
In Chapter 2, this study examined definition, character, classification and function of discourse markers in two languages and discussed similarities and differences of discourse markers in two languages.
In Chapter 3, this study analyzed example sentences in Korean drama 『Descendants of the Sun』 to examine how discourse marker ‘뭐’ is used in real dialogues and discusses how its function works. In addition to this, this study researched Korean dramas which were translated at representative Chinese translation website so examined ‘什么’ as a corresponding discourse marker of ‘뭐’.
This study organized discourse function of ‘뭐’ from drama scripts and organized Chinese corresponding expression through translation of drama.
Then this study found similarities and differences between discourse marker ‘뭐’ and ‘什么’ by comparing their function. The similarities are more remarkable in terms of expressive functions than documentary functions. And it has function of expressing surprise to preceding utterances and has function of incomprehension to preceding utterance. It also has five functions when it is appeared independently; expressing speaker’s negative attitude, expressing hesitations, expressing uncertainty about the content of speech and expressing critical attitude to action of listener.
Differences are as follows. When it independently appears in utterance, Korean ‘뭐’ has more remarkable function to express speaker’s psychological behavior than Chinese ‘什么’. And discourse marker ‘뭐’ has function of emphasizing utterance, function of focalization and function of weakening utterance, but its corresponding word, ‘什么’ has only function of weakening utterance. Both discourse markers have function as beginning of a sentence or function of equivocating. However, Korean ‘뭐’ can suggest these functions independently in speech, while Chinese ‘什么’ has to combined with a demonstrative pronoun to suggest the functions.
In chapter 4, this study analyzed when functional reason of discourse marker ‘왜’ is explicitly inferred and when it is not explicitly inferred, then researched similarities and differences between ‘왜’ and its corresponding word '怎么'. The similarities has following functions; function of identifying the intention of speaker, function of refutation expressing dissatisfaction, function of objection and function of incomprehension. Lastly, it has function of expressing surprise when listener does not understand what speaker says or acts.
Differences are as follows. Discourse marker ‘왜’ has function of denial of expectation, function of expressing displeasure, function of buying time, function of focusing on certain element in sentence, while corresponding Chinese word, '怎么' does not have such functions.
In chapter 5, this study finds similarities and differences between ‘뭐’ and ‘什么’ and between ‘왜’ and '怎么' through comparison study of function of discourse markers in Korean and Chinese so that Korean and Chinese researchers reduce mistakes and helps them to study discourse markers.
