『Euibangyoochui(醫方類聚)』,『Hyangyakjipseongbang(鄕藥集成方)』, 『Dongeuibogam(東醫寶鑑)』 are considered three representative Korean medical books. In this paper, we conducted a study on the system and contents of the 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section(傷寒門). 『Euibangyoochui』 is distinguished by the structure and content of Shang-han section compared to 『Hyangyakjipseongbang』 and 『Dongeuibogam』. First, Shang-han section is 38 volumes out of 266 volume, for 『Euibangyoochui』 and it is the largest amount out of the total 92 section in 『Euibangyoochui』. In 『Dongeuibogam』, Shang-han is covered by Cold section(寒門), which is very small compared to the Shang-han section on 『Euibangyoochui』. Another characteristic of 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section is that there is another disease section, dealing with a similar theme, All cold section(諸寒門). In 『Hyangyakjipseongbang』, only Shang-han section exists, and in 『Dongeuibogam』 the contents of shang han are only noted in Cold section. In other words, the combination of All cold section and Shang-han section in the same medical practice of 『Euibangyoochui』 is a characteristic of 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang han section.
In this study, we compared Shang han section and All cold section to determine what 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section is dealing with. In All cold section of the 『Euibangyoochui』, it discusses cold disease(寒邪) of wind, cold, summer-heat, damp, dryness, and fire(風寒暑濕燥火) as mentioned in 『Nei-Jing(內經)』. On the other hand, in 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section, it discusses Shang-han as described in 『Shang han lun(傷寒論)』 and this concept includes both Shang-han in light and Shang-han in broad. In terms of Six qi, Shang-han section discusses not only cold but also wind and fire as external Six qi. From this we can see that shang han , as mentioned in 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section, is a broad concept that can not be limited to cold disease in Six qi alone.
『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section is a total of 36 volumes from 27 to 63. That is the largest amount out of the total 92 disease section in 『Euibangyoochui』. Shang han section is classified as theory(理論), Bangyak(方藥), needling(鍼灸), taboo(禁忌), Dao Yin(導引) according to the system defined in the explanatory notes. The reference books in Shang-han section are arranged in chronological order as defined in the explanatory notes with a total of 84 quotes. The 『Shanghanlunzhujie(注解傷寒論)』 written by the Sungmoogi(成無己) at the time of the Jin dynasty(金) is placed at the head of Shang-han section and it is out of the chronological order defined in the explanatory notes. The 『Shanghanlunzhujie』 was placed in front of the first part because 『Shang han lun(傷寒論)』 was destroyed by all of the historical accounts, including the war, and thus the 『Shanghanlunzhujie』 was considered to be the most intact of the original work of Jangjunggyeong(張仲景) at the time of Han(漢). Because 『Shanghanlunzhujie』 is considered to be the complete 『Shang han lun』 volume containing the best original letter of 『Shang han lun』, the contents of 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section is described with 『Shanghanlunzhujie』 as the main text.
『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section consists of 1806 small title. The contents of the Shang-han section can be classified into three categories : Shang-han basic argument, syndromes related Shang-han, and other communicable diseases outside Shang-han. Shang-han basic argument includes the contents of outwardness and innerthoughts(表裏), Six channels(六經), Five movements and Six qi(五運六氣). Syndroms related Shang-han include those Shang-han syndroms inside Six channels system, Shang-han syndrome outside Six channels system, and possible syndrome(可症) and impossible syndrome(不可症). Other communicable diseases outside Shang-han include Onbyeong(溫病), Epidemic pathogen(時氣), Unlike pestilence(疫癘).
What is unusual here is that diseases like Onbyeong, Epidemic pathogen, Unlike pestilence, were not classified as Shang-han in the original 『Shang-han lun』, but they were incorporated into 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section. The reason that editors of 『Euibangyoochui』 put Onbyeong, Epidemic pathogen, Unlike pestilence in Shang-han section is first, the subject covered by 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang han section is set to the Shang-han of the broad, which is all external heat disease. Second, diseases not covered by the main text 『Shanghanlunzhujie』 are to reflect the achievements of other research that later doctors consider to be Shang-han.
When looking at historical records, record about 『Shang han lun』in Korea's medical history was small compared to China's. The 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section is significant because it opened the way for research on 『Shang han lun』 from various points of view, which had been crude until the early Joseon Dynasty. Since its publication, many doctors have been published the book about infectious diseases, and the infectious diseases is also important topic in 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section. In other words, 『Euibangyoochui』 Shang-han section needs to futher studied on the connection with the epidemic history.
