The main purpose of this study was to examine the influence of covert narcissism, peer attachment and parental psychological control on the SNS addiction tendency of middle school students.
To achieve this purpose, the research questions set up were as follows;
First, what is the relationship between the influence of covert narcissism and the SNS addiction tendency of middle school students?
Second, what is the relationship between the peer attachment and the SNS addiction tendency of middle school students?
Third, what is the relationship between the parental psychological control and the SNS addiction tendency of middle school students?
Fourth, what is the relative influence of covert narcissism, peer attachment and parental psychological control on the SNS addiction tendency of middle school students?
In order to solve these questions, 313 female middle school students were sampled in Chungcheongbukdo. The data collected were analyzed by Cronbach’s α, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 18.0 program.
The major results of this research were as follows;
First, there was a positive correlation between the influence of covert narcissism and the SNS addiction tendency of middle school students.
Second, there was a positive correlation between the parental psychological control and the SNS addiction tendency of middle school students.
Third, the relative influence of covert narcissism, peer attachment and parental psychological control on the SNS addiction tendency was shown as a statistically significant result. Among those three factors, the parental psychological control factor has the highest influence on the SNS Addiction Tendency. Among the subfactors, the induction of guilty conscience reveals the highest influence on the SNS Addiction Tendency.
This study would have a significance in providing a stepping stone to improve the SNS addiction tendency of middle school students and developing an education programs for these students.
