타로(Tarot)의 이론적 배경과 실제적 검증 : 직업상담을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

古代 그리스 천체 탐구로 비롯되어 정통적으로 계승 발전된 것이 오늘날의 천문학 또는 우주 물리학으로 확립되었고 민간신앙의 성격으로 변질되어 나타난 것이 서양 점성술이다.

이러한 토양에서 타로점이 유래되었다고 하는 것이 일반적인 견해이다.
당시 학문적 지식은 소수 지식인 학자들의 전유물로 독점되고 민중들에게는 배타적으로 차단되었다.

고대인들에게는 자연, 특히 하늘의 세계는 미지의 세계이며 신비의 세계였던 것은 동서의 차이가 없다. 자연이 숭배의식이 있었을 것이며 수많은 민간신앙의 연원이 되었을 것이다.

고대 그리스 사람들의 숭배의식으로 표상된 존재가 고대 그리스, 로마신화에 나오는 신들과 영웅들이다. 자연스럽게 그들은 민간신앙의 종주로 추앙되었고 그에 따른 제의 의식이 마련되었을 것이다. 그러한 제의를 집행하는 자는 동서에 따라 제각기 달리 불리어졌지만 천계와 인간세계를 중계하는 역할을 수행하면서 신앙적 지도자 자리와 권위를 확보했을 것이다. 그들이 바로 그리스 신전을 지키고 신탁을 전하는 巫姬, 巫女였을 것이다. 오늘날 점술을 시술하는 모든 역술가들의 조상인 셈이다.

고대 그리스 신화의 주인공들이 78장 타로카드의 標章으로 復活하여 서양무대를 넘어 동양의 한국에까지 활동무대를 확장해 가고 있다. 타로점이 이토록 널리 전파되어 활력을 얻고 있는 이유는 정확히 알 수는 없지만 민중의 지지 위에 확고한 지위를 획득한 것은 주지의 사실이다.

타로점을 시술하는 현장을 엿보면 대중들이 일종의 유희처럼 가볍게 즐기고 있는 듯하다. 이를 바라보는 부정적인 시선과 비판도 있을 것이다. 이는 타로점의 현장 술사, 혹은 이를 학문적으로 연구하고 정당한 사회적 지위를 확보하려는 타로 역학자들이 어쩔 수 없이 감당해야 할 문제이다.

타로점이 짧지 않은 역사와 근원을 가지고 있으니 이를 학문적으로 정립하고 역학의 한 분야로 그 지위를 튼튼하게 다질 수 있을 것이며 그 책무는 타로역술가, 역학자 모두에게 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Ancient Greek astronomical explorations paved the way for today's astronomy and cosmology, and also became the predecessor for Western astrology and changed the character of civilized faith. The general opinion is that Tarot is derived from these roots.

In the past, academic knowledge was limited to scholars and elites and was not available to the general public. In both Eastern and Western ancient civilizations, natural phenomena and the heavens were a mystery. Worshiping and rituals for the heavens naturally arose and became the origins of many folk religions.

The gods and heroes worshiped by the Greeks became the beings of Greek and Roman mythology. They were revered as the venerate beings of their religion, and religious services were prepared accordingly. Those who lead and enforced these rituals and services would have been able to secure religious leadership and authority by relaying the messages from heaven to the mortals of Earth.

These priests and priestesses guarded the Greek temples and delivered oracles. They are the forefathers of contemporary diviners and practitioners of divination. The heroes from Greek mythology, reborn as emblems of the seventy-eight cards of Tarot, are extending their stage beyond the West to Korea of the East. Although the reason is unclear, Tarot is spreading widely and gaining vitality, earning a solid backing from the public. Visiting places where Tarot is practice, it can be seen that the public enjoys it as a kind of light entertainment. There are also those with negative views and criticisms of the practice.

This is an issue that must be managed by Tarot practitioners and epidemiologists, or those who study Tarot, to secure its legitimacy. As Tarot has a long history, it can be established academically and secure its status in the field of epidemiology.

The responsibility lies with both Tarot practitioners and its epidemiologists.
