Yuk-Im is a fortune-telling methodology by creating Sagwasamjeon, where Chunjang is arranged in the right or reversed order in accordance with the location of the Gwi-in placed on the Jiban while the Woeljang, designated by the 12 Palaces, where the Sun, which represents the laws of the Nature, changes every 30°, is placed at the time of the right judgment.
Chunjang is often called as the "12 Spirits," and plays a significant role in the right judgement as the interpretation might differ in accordance with the type of Chunjang placed on Jiban when judging Yuk-Im.
However, the 12 Chunjangs are often neglected in the current application of Yuk-Im, and there are only a few studies that focus on them. As such, the purpose of this study is to promote the importance of the 12 Chunjangs by looking into the interpretation of the 12 Chunjangs, their roles, and case studies.
The methodology and application of this study are as follows: First, when interpreting and describing the 12 Chunjangs, the author of this study attempted to quote the original text as much as possible by translating it; however, due to limited understanding of the Chinese Characters and cultural difference, a full interpretation of the original text was not possible. Second, this study looks into the role of the 12 Chunjangs and the correlation of the five elements, including in the 12 Chunjangs, when reading Yuk-Im. Third, this study reviews how Yuk-Im and the 12 Chunjangs are applied in the real-world situation by listing the real-world cases of Yuk-Im(marriage, seeking wealth, passing tests, real-estate, litigation, and etc.). Fourth, this study on the 12 Chunjangs has its limitation in verifying Yuk-Im or in proving Yuk-Im is legitimate as it heavily relied on the original text; however, it carries its own significance in that it attempted to research and promote the role and importance of the 12 Chunjangs. At the same time, this study proposed that there should be further research on the 12 Chunjangs.
