The purpose of this study is to prove the effects of Career Education Program for transition students on career development and self-efficacy of elementary school students, In order to accomplish this, the following research questions were established.
First, Are the Career Education Program for transition students meaningful effective in promoting elementary school students' career development?
Second, Are the Career Education Program for transition students effective in enhancing elementary school student's self-efficacy?
The transition student who is the subject of the research, refers to the 6th grade student who is going to the middle school which is the advanced school.
Especially it refers to the student who is about to enter middle school after the 6th grade winter vacation.
Also, The Career Education Program is based on the STP-E program developed by the Ministry of Education(2013), but were extracted Activity area, goals and concrete content elements in analizing a direct or indirect prior research. In order to supplementing Improvement of transition students' career development and self-efficacy, the <LONG JUMP transition> Career Education Program was composed of 10 periods using related books, internet information, and reference materials.
For the verify research questions, One class in 6th grade from D elementary school located in Daejeon Metropolitan city were chosen as the experimental group, the other class were chosen as the control group. To the experimental group were conducted 10 periods of the <LONG JUMP transition> Career Education Program between pre-test and post-test, and to the control group were conducted only pre-test and post-test without any special treatment. In order to verify the pre-homogeneity of the experimental group and the control group and to verify the effects of career development and self-efficacy improvement, an independent sample t-test conducted. In addition, the responses and oral testimonies of the participating students were analyzed to supplement the reliability and validity of the statistical test.
Besides The tools used in this study were the measures of career development test and self-efficacy test. To examine career development improvement, Used inspection paper was developed by Lee Jong Beom(2005), was modified and supplemented for the senior grade by Kim Nam Kyung(2016) with the expert. Self-efficacy inspection paper was developed by Kim Ayoung(1997) and Sim Gyehwa(2004),adapted suitable expression to elementary school students by Kim Ayoung and Cha Jeongeun(1996), and used tools modified again by Kim Jaeho(2006).
The results obtained by verifying the effectiveness of the program are summarized as follows.
Firstly, The transition Career Education Program showed positive effect in career development's all sub area, for example self-concept recognition, self characteristic understanding, interpersonal relationship recognition, recognizing the relationship between career and learning, recognizing the relationship between work and self and society, understanding and utilizing career information, understanding the decision-making process, understanding lifelong role relationships, understanding career planning process. In particular, perceived his or her merits and strengths, and showed meaningful responses to the planning of the future career from the present life plan using the information he searched.
Secondly, The transition Career Education Program showed that in not only the whole area of self-efficacy but also there was positive effect in self-efficacy's all sub area, for example confidence, self-regulation efficacy, challenge difficulty. In particular, showed optimism about coping with situations and a hopeful attitude in terms of confidence and expectation for new work.
In conclusion, Career Education Program for transition students have proven to have positive effects in improving elementary school career development and self-efficacy. In other words, It suggests that the Transition Career Education Program can be an alternative to encourage elementary students to perceive positively, plan, and confidently by looking at the turning point of entering middle school as an extension of the future.
