Due to changes in awareness of the development and consumption of information and communication technologies, the shared economy has become a trend in the global economy. A shared office is a space where people from different fields share a work space and collaborate with a voluntary community. Shared offices were derived from the changed understanding of shared space, changes in work environment and changed perception of workers.
The purpose of this study is to propose a service landscape strategy that can enhance the satisfaction of users of shared office by establishing the concept 'co-working servicescape' which can be analyzed using the sevicescape of the shared office.
For this purpose, the background, spatial characteristics and service landscape of the shared office were discussed and analyzed to derive the concept of the co-working servicescape. Through the analysis of the present situation, the shared offices were classified according to its space support type. Moreover, advanced domestic shared office related studies were analyzed and a questionnaire survey was conducted to 102 users who experienced using the shared office. Based on the data obtained through the surveys, the researcher analyzed the importance and satisfaction of co-working servicescape, investigated the relationship of the two and found needed improvements, and proposed the strategies accordingly.
The main results of this study are summarized as follows.
1. The concept of 'co-working servicescape' consists of comfort, aesthetics, space usability, relationship orientation and sociality.
In addition, by analyzing the domestic situation, the researcher classified the space support type into incubator type, network type, network specialized type, cafe type and co-working & co-living type. Moreover, by comparing the best domestic case and the rest, the researcher has found out the factors that earn positive feedbacks from the users and these are special services and the convenience of sharing information with the community whereas the factors that earn negative feedbacks are the far distance between the shared office and the convenience facility and discomfort usage of the commonly used space such as the elevators and the restrooms.
2. As a result of analyzing users' usage patterns of shared offices, the users mainly used it for personal affairs or start-up related work and the users’ work experiences were more than 6 years. In addition, their usage period was less than 6 months.
The analysis of the importance and satisfaction of the users' co-working servicescape has shown that comfort is the most important factor while sociality is the most satisfied factor. The researcher thinks that the users’ short usage period is the main cause of this outcome. There were no significant differences amongst the different type of users and the common factors that need improvement were the spaces that stimulate creativity, allow variability, and lead to natural interaction.
3. The results of the overall analysis show that the shared offices in Korea are in need of improvement in terms of a creative and flexible space and a community formation. Therefore, the researcher suggests the improvement strategies, user’s true shared office experience and a shared offices’ brand philosophy.
The purposes of this study are to investigate the current status of domestic shared offices, search for the problems and suggest a service landscape strategy based on the needed improvements. Through this research, the researcher hopes that the data would contribute to any further development of the shared offices in the future.
