The subjects of this study were 260 childcare teachers working in daycare centers in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon. We analyzed the data that we collected from the survey that was conducted between April 3 and April 25, 2017.
In order to investigate the self-esteem of the childcare teachers, we used the research tool that was adjusted by BaekHye-won (1993) and modified by Song Kyung-a (2008). Also, to investigate teacher's efficacy, we used a tool that has undergone verification process of factor validity and reliability from the research of Shin, Hye-young(2004) who modified the tool considering the situation of nursing homes. In order to examine the psychological well - being of child care teachers, we used the questions selected by Kim Myung - So, Kim Hye - won, and Cha Kyung Ho (2001) through question analysis. The collected data were analyzed using simple regression analysis, multiple regression analysis, multi-collinearityusing SPSSWIN 16.0, and we carried out Scheffe verification as a follow-up verification if needed.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, as we looked into childcare teachers' self - esteem, teacher efficacy, and psychological well - beingaccording tosocio - demographic background variables, there was no difference in their self - esteem. Teacher efficacy of childcare teacher was different in general efficacy according to the age. There was a difference in general efficacy, teacher efficacy, the goal of lifeby kindergarten type, also it was different in general efficacy, personal efficacy, and teacher efficacy by teacher's careers. General efficacy, personal efficacy, teacher efficacy, self-acceptance, autonomy, dominance of environment, purpose of life, and psychological well - being were different by teacher's level of education. There was no difference in the general efficacy and teacher efficacy according to the age of group of kids that teacher is in charge of, but there was a difference in the salary of the childcare teachers. Second, the correlation between self - esteem, teacher efficacy, and psychological well - being of the childcare teacher showed that the higher the self - esteem of the childcare teacher was, the higher the teacher efficacy was, also the higher the teacher efficacy was, the higher the psychological well - being was. Third, the mediating effect of psychological well - being on the relationship between self - esteem and teacher efficacy of daycare teachers showed that self - esteem of daycare teachers directly influenced teacher efficacy by the medium of psychological well - being.
In conclusion, this study is meaningful because first, it suggests that the self-esteem, teacher efficacy, and psychological well-being of childcare teacher have close correlation. Second, it suggests that we verified the way influences teachers' self - esteem and teachers' efficacy through the structural equation model of childcare teachers. In this way, we anticipate that positive social self-esteem such as social support and encouragement for childcare teachers is raised, and that we can raise teacher efficacy and the quality of daycare bymaking childcare teachers fulfill professional qualification through providing social support, thereby teachers becoming psychologically stable can give positive impacts on infants.
