The Korean society is changing into multicultural society. The number of immigrant workers, Sartermin, immigrant women through marriages, and Kosians grows up in Korean society. As a result of these social changes, multicultural families and children are increasing and they are expected to increase more in the future. Factors affecting children's language development comprise biological and socio-cultural components. Biological components include sex and age, and socio-cultural components include social economic status. Naming is an important part of communication. The name selected for an object or acting may reflect requirements for successful communication, whereas the representation is primarily influenced by constraint such as storage efficiency and the ability to support inference. Naming is an area reflecting young children's linguistic knowledge and is essential for communication in daily life. This study has researched the characteristics of naming of children who grown up in multicultural family with the comparison to children of ordinary family. This study examined children's naming abilities and naming error types. Two groups of 28 children were examined about naming abilities and error types using 50 nouns and 50 verbs. To elicit children's responses, evaluator asked each children "what is this?" for nouns and "what's happening?" for verbs. Data was analyzed by two-way ANOVA with repeated measure on a variable and T-tests. The principle findings of this study are the followings. The frequency of correct responses of children of multicultural family had no significant difference from that of children of ordinary family(F1,26 = 3.318, p>.05). However, the frequency of correct responses of noun in both groups was significantly higher than that of verb(F1,26 = 9.380, p>.05). Error types analysis showed semantic error was the most frequent of noun- naming errors for the ordinary family's children. The multicultural family's children showed ‘Don't-know' error most frequently, and semantic error followed. In verb naming, semantic error was the most frequent, and semantic error followed in both groups. The differences for each error pattern between the groups were not significant. Interestingly, morphophonological errors in verb naming were observed around 10% of the time. In conclusion, there was no significant difference in naming ability and error between children of multicultural family and ordinary family.
