The influences of exhaustion of preschool teachers on teacher-infant interaction:
Mediating effects of psychological well-being

This study aims to inquire into correlations between exhaustion of preschool teachers and teacher-infant interaction, between psychological well-being and teacher-infant interaction, between exhaustion of preschool teachers and psychological well-being; furthermore, it intends to examine if psychological well-being works as a mediator in the relationship between exhaustion of preschool teachers and teacher-infant interaction.
The research subjects were oriented to 370 preschool teachers working in Child Care Centers located in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi-do areas, and a questionnaire survey was carried out regarding psychological well-being, exhaustion of preschool teachers and teacher-infant interaction. For the analysis of collected data, SPSS 23.0 program was used. So as to inquire into socio-demographic characteristics of research subjects, frequency analysis was conducted to compute frequency and percentage. For examining the reliability of measurement tool, Cronbach's alpha coefficient value was computed as internal consistency reliability. Moreover, so as to figure out the correlation among exhaustion of preschool teachers, psychological well-being and teacher-infant interaction, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was calculated. In order to examine mediating effects of psychological well-being in the correlation between exhaustion of preschool teachers and teacher-infant interaction, multiple regression analysis was conducted.
Prior to the analysis, with a view to reviewing multicollinearity violation as a basic process of regression equation, variance inflation factor (VIF) and tolerance limits values were confirmed. The research results can be summarized as follows:
Firstly, the subordinate factors of exhaustion of preschool teachers such as emotional exhaustion, dehumanization and reduction of sense of accomplishment turned out to show negative significant correlation with preschool teacher-infant interaction.
Secondly, the subordinate factors of psychological well-being such as positive interpersonal relationship, self-acceptance, control over environment, autonomy, individual growth and purpose of life showed positive significant correlation with preschool teacher-infant correlation.
Thirdly, the subordinate factors of exhaustion of preschool teachers such as emotional exhaustion, dehumanization and reduction of sense of accomplishment showed negative correlation with the subordinate factors of psychological well-being such as positive interpersonal relationship, self-acceptance, control over environment, autonomy, individual growth and purpose of life.
Fourthly, it turned out that there were mediating effects reducing negative influences in the correlation between the subordinate factors of psychological well-being such as positive interpersonal relationship, self-acceptance, control over environment, individual growth and purpose of life and the subordinate factors of exhaustion of preschool teachers such as emotional exhaustion and teacher-infant interaction.
Moreover, it turned out that the individual growth which is a subordinate factor of psychological well-being showed mediating effects reducing negative influences in the correlation between the reduction of sense of accomplishment which is a subordinate factor of preschool teachers and teacher-infant interaction.

본 연구는 보육교사 소진과 보육교사-영유아 상호작용 간의 관계, 심리적 안녕감과 보육교사-영유아 상호작용 간의 관계, 보육교사 소진과 심리적 안녕감의 관계, 나아가서는 심리적 안녕감이 보육교사 소진과 보육교사-영유아 상호작용 간의 관계를 매개하는지 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구의 대상은 서울, 인천, 경기도에 위치한 어린이집에 재직하고 있는 보육교사 370명으로 심리적 안녕감, 보육교사 소진, 보육교사-영유아 상호작용에 관한 설문지를 배부하여 조사하였다. 수집된 자료의 처리를 위해 SPSS 23.0 통계 분석 프로그램을 사용하였으며, 연구대상의 사회인구학적 특성을 살펴보기 위해 빈도분석을 실시하여 빈도와 백분율을 산출하였고, 측정도구의 신뢰도를 알아보기 위해 내적 합치도 계수인 Cronbach 값을 산출하였다. 그리고 보육교사 소진과 심리적 안녕감 및 보육교사-영유아 상호작용 간의 관계를 파악하기 위해 Pearson의 적률상관계수를 산출하였으며, 보육교사 소진과 보육교사-영유아 간 상호작용 간의 관계에서 심리적 안녕감의 매개효과를 알아보기 위하여 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석에 앞서 회귀식의 기본과정인 다중공선성의 위반여부를 검토하기 위해 분산팽창계수(VIF) 및 공차한계(tolerance) 값을 확인하였고 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째 보육교사 소진의 하위요인인 정서적 고갈, 비인간화와 성취감 감소는 보육교사-영유아 상호작용과 부적으로 유의한 상관을 나타냈다.
둘째 심리적 안녕감의 하위요인인 긍정적 대인관계, 자아수용, 환경에 대한 통제력, 자율성, 개인적 성장과 삶의 목적은 보육교사-영유아 상호작용과 정적으로 유의한 상관을 보였다.
셋째 보육교사 소진의 하위요인인 정서적 고갈, 비인간화와 성취감 감소는 심리적 안녕감의 하위요인인 긍정적 대인관계, 자아수용, 환경에 대한 통제, 자율성, 개인적 성장, 삶의 목적과 부적으로 유의한 상관을 보였다.
넷째 심리적 안녕감의 하위요인인 긍정적 대인관계, 자아수용, 환경에 대한 통제, 개인적 성장, 삶의 목적은 보육교사 소진의 하위요인인 정서적 고갈과 보육교사-영유아 상호작용 간의 관계에서 부정적인 영향을 감소시키는 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 심리적 안녕감의 하위요인인 개인적 성장은 보육교사 소진의 하위요인인 성취감 감소와 보육교사-영유아 상호작용 간의 관계에서 부정적인 영향을 감소시키는 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
