The use of manned aerial vehicle, or TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanning) to capture 3D mapping is critical because they are far more time and cost effective than traditional methods. They are practical and the most effective across numerous fields of industry as well as private and government businesses. They provide aerial photogrammetry and air survey photographs using relatively low costs and efforts. Previously the use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was only accessible to private and government businesses. However as the need and use for drones grew, they have become commercially accessible. Photo and video images collected from relatively lower priced commercial drones that are equipped with digital cameras are increasingly used for 3D mapping due to its faster and more effective data processing.
First, this research is regarding the process of obtaining 3D mapped images through the use of drones. The research took place both domestically and internationally through literature, news articles and internet materials.
Kyung-Sung University Multimedia building 12 was 3D mapped using commercial drones (unmanned aerial photography method) then the data was converted into a 3D mapping file. Since the building was relatively smaller in size the flying altitude was set at 50 meters and the software option at its lowest setting to check on the usage time of the system. Then align photos were ran, a dense point cloud followed by mesh build and texture for built for 2 hours to acquire the final 3D mapped images.
Though out the research of acquiring 3D mapping sample images using commercial drones (UAV), this research came to a conclusion that this method can effectively be used on cultural assets restoration, natural disaster investigation and cadastral survey. Furthermore sports casting, construction, architecture, agriculture and environmental system areas can effectively use 3D mapping technology by commercial unmanned aerial vehicle.
In conclusion, through the research of acquiring 3D mapping sample images using commercial drones (UAV) this method can effectively be used for cultural assets restoration, natural disaster investigation, cadastral surveys , sports casting, construction, architecture, agriculture and environmental system areas.
