성인여성의 음양오행 체질에 따른 헤어스타일 연구 = A Study on the Hair Styles of Adult Women through YIN-YANG and FIVE ELEMENTS

Interest in improving the quality of their life and health is growing in
these highly developed industrial societies. Especially the interest in health
have lead the trend of replenishing their lacked energy source by knowing
their constitution and get closer to their fitting food, exercise and color. In
these days, there are more females who are involved in our society and
this increases the interest in esthetic beauty, especially hair beauty.
The purpose of this thesis will be to strengthen the strength and make
up for the weakness of individuals by giving them the haircut, perm and
color that resulted after analyzing their constitution through Yin- Yang
and elements of universe. These personalized hair style will eventually help
individuals to have good health and long life. In addition, the purpose also
includes that this statistical data will be important reference in field in the
situation of counseling individual’s hair style.
The targets of this questionnaire survey were number of 80 females who
were in the age of 20~50 and resident of Changwon district. For the first

survey there were 10 research participants, 5 of them had big difference in
position of five elements of universe, three of them had two-elements and
rest of them had three- elements. After selection, the haircut and style
was selected based on their Yin-Yang and elements of universe type, and
lacked elements of universe was fulfilled by the selected right color of
their hair.
The research subjects are divided based on Yin-Yang School
constitution: metal, water, earth, fire and wood. It also includes
earth-water, fire-water, and earth-wood-metal type. The survey, about
the satisfaction was done by hair stylists who were in the industry for
more than 10 years. The survey was taken by 1 to 1 interview method
due to vocabulary barrier.
The research of this thesis concluded those results.
First, going through fortune and destiny enables the investigation of
individual’s Yin-Yang and universal elements constitution. Fortune and
destiny, also known as Four Pillars and Eight Characters is alignment of 8
elements of universe: birth year- month-day -time and other energy
sources, which means these can show individuals constitution and faith.
Second, there are specific hairstyle fits for individuals depending on their
Yin-Yang and elements of universe: long solid and magic straight hair for
wood type, short, uniform layer and baby perm for fire type, medium
graduation cut and volume perm for earth type, semi-cut with step solid
hair or volume magic for metal type, and semi long, increase layer style
with nature wave hair style for water type. Along with hair style, hair
color, consider as a element that can improve individuals abdominal
activities caused by lacked elements of universe, was chosen to depending
on their elements of universe too.
Third, for the result, the participant’s satisfaction rate was 84% and
professional hairstylist’s satisfaction rate was 90% for their new hair style.
To be more detail, fire, earth, and water types were perfectly satisfied
with the style but metal type only satisfied 60% with the opinion that they
will be more satisfied if their hair is shorter.

Fourth, this statistical documented data can be used as source on the
hair counseling. From the data collected, it is proven that the hair style
resulted after considering their constitution of Yin-Yang and elements of
universe can improve individual’s facial color or shape. Furthermore, those
who have no difference in the number of their elements of universe also
can have improvement after going through deeper analyzation. For
conclusion, relation between individual’s constitution and hair color can
cause positive change in a person’s appearance and this thesis can be
studied furthermore to improve their
