Play has important values for children's development. Specially traditional games have the value for education and socialization of the culture which produce those games for children.
The purpose of this study was to apply the traditional games to children activities and analyse effects on personality development. The subject of this study consists of 40 students in attending at both 'A' and 'B' primary schools, which are much alike in geographical positions and economic levels, located in Kyoungju. And the 'A' school is appointed as the traditional game group, while the 'B' is appointed as the general game group during one year.
After practicing four-stick game, Korean seesaw, shuttlecock game, spinning a top, throwing arrow, kicking a pebble, stick tossing, hitting tombstone, kite flying etc. to the 'A' school according to traditional method of the games, I tested the difference in these personality development of the two groups using the T-test method at the of p.<.05 or p.<0.01 test.
The result indicated that there was a significant difference between the two groups. Accordingly the educational value of our traditional games in these personality development was demonstrated clearly. Specially traditional games are useful in development of a sociality, a sense of responsibility, self-respect, adapting oneself to school circumstances and getting rid of stress etc.
