어머니의 양육태도와 유아의 사회적 능력의 관계에 대한 유아의 정서조절능력의 매개효과

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 어머니의 양육태도와 유아의 사회적 능력의 관계에 대한 유아의 정서조절능력의 매개효과에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 이러한 연구목적을 수행하기 위해 설정된 연구문제는 다음과 같다.

1. 어머니의 양육태도와 유아의 사회적 능력의 관계는 어떠한가?
2. 유아의 정서조절능력과 유아의 사회적 능력의 관계는 어떠한가?
3. 어머니의 양육태도와 유아의 사회적 능력의 관계에 대한 유아의 정서 조절능력의 매개 역할은 어떠한가?

본 연구의 대상은 유아교육기관 만 5세반 유아 189명이다. 본 연구 도구는 어머니의 양육태도를 측정하기 위해 박지숙, 박성연(2008)의 척도를 사용하였다. 유아의 사회적 능력을 측정하기 위해 우수경(2002)이 제작한 것을 노신민(2004)이 수정한 어머니용 평정척도를 사용하였으며, 유아의 정서조절능력은 어머니용 평정척도로 Shields와 Cicchetti(1995)의Emotion Regualtion Checklist(ERC)를 번안한 김지윤(2007)의 척도를 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 15.0과 AMOS 7.0 프로그램을 사용하여 어머니와 유아의 인구사회학적 특성의 빈도분석을 실시하였으며, 평균과 표준편차를 산출하였다. 변인에 따른 상관분석, 경로분석(PathAnalysis), Sobel test를 실시하여 분석하였다.
본 연구의 분석결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 어머니의 애정·합리적인 양육태도는 유아의 사회적 능력에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 어머니의 강압적인 양육태도와 과보호적 양육태도는 유아의 사회적 능력과 부적 상관을 보였다. 이는 어머니의 애정·합리적인 양육태도는 유아의 주도성과 사교성, 협조성의 사회적 능력을 향상시켜주는 경향이 있음을 의미한다.
둘째, 유아의 정서조절능력과 유아의 사회적 능력 간에는 높은 정적인 상관이 있는 것으로 이는 유아의 정서조절능력이 높을수록 유아의 사회적 능력이 증진되는 경향이 있음을 의미한다.
셋째, 어머니의 양육태도와 유아의 사회적 능력의 관계에 있어 유아의 정서조절 능력은 매개의 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났으며, 어머니의 애정·합리적인 양육태도는 유아의 사회적 능력에 직접적으로 영향을 미치고, 정서조절능력을 통해서도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 어머니의 강압적인 양육태도는 유아의 사회적 능력에 직접적으로 영향을 미치지 않고, 정서조절능력을 통해서만 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 유아의 정서조절능력이 중요한 매개의 역할을 하는 것을 의미한다.

본 연구는 어머니의 양육태도와 유아의 사회적 능력과의 관계에서 유아의 정서조절능력이 어떻게 매개하는지에 대한 중요성을 밝혀내고, 유아의 정서조절능력을 매개로 유아의 사회적 능력에 미치는 구조적 관계를 규명했다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 이는 유아의 사회적 능력에 영향을 주는 어머니의 양육태도의 중요성을 인식하고, 유아의 정서조절을 위한 프로그램을 개발하는데 이론적 기초를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of child’s emotional regulation ability on the relationship between mother’s parenting attitude and child’s social ability. The following study topics were created to perform such study purpose.

1. How is the relationship between mother’s parenting attitude and child’s social ability?
2. How is the relationship between child’s emotional regulation ability and child’s social ability?
3. How is the mediating effect of child’s emotional regulation ability on the relationship between mother’s parenting attitude and child’s social ability?

The object of this study is 189 children in 5-year-old’s classes in children education institutes. This study tool used the criterion created by Park, Ji Sook and Park, Sung Yeon (2008), to measure mother’s parenting attitude. To measure child’s social ability, rating scale for the mothers created by Woo, Soo Kyung (2002) and revised by Noh, Shin Min (2004) was used, and child’s emotional regulation ability used Kim, Ji Yoon(2007)’s scale, which adapted Emotion Regulation Checklist (ERC) by Shields and Cicchetti (1995), for mother’s rating scale. A frequency analysis of mothers and children’s sociodemographic characteristics was performed on collected data, using SPSS 15.0 and AMOS 7.0, and the mean and the standard deviation were calculated. A correlation analysis according to the variables, PathAnalysis, and Sobel test were performed and analyzed.

The analysis result of this study is as follows.
First, mother’s affective-reasonable parenting attitude has a static influence on child’s social ability, and mother’s coercive and overprotective parenting attitudes showed negative correlation with child’s social ability. This means that mother’s affective-reasonable parenting attitude has the tendency to improve child’s social ability of initiative, sociability, and cooperation.
Second, child’s emotional regulation ability and social ability has a high static correlation, which means that the higher child’s emotional regulation ability, the more child’s social ability has the tendency to enhance.
Third, child’s emotional regulation ability acts as a mediator in the relationship between mother’s parenting attitude and child’s social ability, mother’s affective-reasonable parenting attitude directly affects child’s social ability, and also affects through the emotional regulation ability. Also, mother’s coercive parenting attitude does not directly affect child’s social ability, and only affects through the emotional regulation ability. This means that child’s emotional regulation ability acts as an important mediator.

This study is significant in that it revealed the importance of how child’s emotional regulation ability mediate in the relationship between mother’s parenting attitude and child’s social ability, and investigated the structural relationship that affects child’s social ability as the child’s emotional regulation ability as a mediator. It is expected to provide theoretical basis in developing a program to recognize the importance of mother’s parenting attitude, which affects child’s social ability, and to control child’s emotion.
