This study purposed effects of children’s temperament and their fathers’ participation in parenting on the parenting stress of their mothers. For this purpose, 264 mothers of children aged 3 to 5 enrolling in six child care centers in Cheongju were recruited for a survey with a questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 for a t-test, F-test, ANOVA, hierarchical regression analysis and post-test verification. The result can be summarized as follows:
As for factors influencing mother’s daily stress, there were main effects of children’s emotionality, activeness and sociability, and an interaction effect between children’s activeness and father’s participation in parenting. Meanwhile, As for factors affecting burdens/distress of parenting roles, there were main effects of children’s emotionality and sociability, and an interaction effect between children’s activeness and father’s participation in parenting. This indicated lower children’s emotionality and sociability, the lower maternal parenting stress; fathers' participation in parenting had a limited effect on the parenting stress of mothers while it moderated the effect of activeness of children.
