The purpose of this study is to investigate features of “enthusiastic” science teachers who are active field trips. This study is to discover their motives, beliefs, and practices in field trips. In addition, this study analyze professional development related to field trips. The results of this study are explained in the following paragraphs.
First of all, looking at the case of “enthusiastic” science teachers who are active field trips, teacher Lee is a teacher emphasizing the process of scientific thinking through the field trip. Teacher Woo is focusing on students to expand their experience through the field trip. Teacher Jeong attract students in the field trip through allowing students to engage in the activities firsthand and believe that the field trip would build students' character. Teacher Seol focus on students to have nature friendly manner by familiarizing students with the forest through continuous forest field trips.
These four “enthusiastic” science teachers who participated in the research are teachers with past experience in field trips and they have their own educational value and beliefs about field trips. Moreover, “enthusiastic” science teachers are teachers who give much thought on field trips, have educational beliefs, and give continuous effort to strengthen their ability and to vitalize field trips.
The results of this study show in depth research of “enthusiastic” science teachers who are active in field trips. By providing the results, it is possible to determine features of “enthusiastic” science teachers who are active field trips. And it will be a turning point for teachers who recognize the importance of field trips but have difficulty in implementing field trips.
