The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of job seeking stress between major selection motivation, career decision-making self-efficacy, and outcome-expectancy of university students.
The following are the research questions for this study : First, are there a difference in job seeking stress, major selection motivation, career decision-making self-efficacy, and outcome-expectancy of university students according to gender, grade, and major field? Second, are there any relationship between major selection motivation, career decision-making self-efficacy, outcome-expectancy, and job seeking stress?
Participants of the study were male and female university students from 5 universities in Seoul, Kyoung Gi, and Incheon province. They response to the major selection motivation scale, the career decision-making self-efficacy scale, the outcome-expectancy scale, and the job seeking stress scale.
Of 322 copies of questionnaire, 301(male 122, female 291) valid ones excluding questionnaire that response is being omitted or unfaithfully responded ones were selected and statistically analyzed. Data of the study was analyzed on frequency analysis, mean and standard deviation, Pearson correlation coefficient, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression by using SPSS Statistics 22.0.
The results found in the study are summarized as follows.
First, The effects of on major selection motivation, career decision-making self-efficacy, outcome-expectancy and job seeking stress based on gender, grade, and major field as follows: For genders, sub-factors of career decision-making self-efficacy(future plans), this was higher on men than women. And sub factors of job seeking stress(personality), this was higher on women than men. For grades, sub-factor of job seeking stress(personality, employment anxiety) showed a statistically significant difference. The first grader was the lowest of job seeking stress, and the fourth grader was the highest of job seeking stress. For major field, career decision-making self-efficacy, outcome-expectation, and job seeking stress there were no statistically significant difference between both. However, sub-factors of major selection motivation(intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation) was significant differences.
Second, The relationship between major selection motivation, career decision-making self-efficacy, outcome-expectancy, and job seeking stress as follows: There are positive relationship between major selection motivation, career decision-making self-efficacy and outcome expectancy, whereas there are negative relationship between major selection motivation and job seeking stress. Moreover there are positive relationship between career decision-making self-efficacy and outcome-expectancy, and there are negative relationship between job seeking stress each other.
This study investigated the rare researching factors of job seeking stress(major selection motivation, outcome-expectancy) except career decision-making self-efficacy. This study has the significance as a basic data that various factors affecting the job seeking stress was attempted. This study is expected to be able to be used for counseling and programs for university students to experience job seeking stress.
