This study looked at the historical document and knowledge information approaches and utilization plans in order to enhance the use of digitalized historical document materials and accelerate the expansion of knowledge through association of various konwledge elements.
The ‘historical document,’ objects of this study, are the data investigated and collected from the families scattered around the country for about thirty years by Jangseogak (藏書閣) Archives, the Academy of Korean Studies. As the lives of kinsfolk are recorded in these documents, members of the kinsfolk are the subject in producing the documents and also has status as the object.
In the first place, I analyzed the composition of ‘Korean Historical Document Center(韓國學資料센터)’ of the Academy of Korean Studies, which is our representative digital archive of historical documents, in order to present new approaches to historical document studies that might be used to reach the truth of the life of kinsfolk by unfolding the contents of historical document more clearly. Based on this, this study set individual kinsfolk as unit of service model for presenting the correlation between members of kinsfolk and historical document data. For the purpose of studey, I chose ‘Bunjaegi(Property Records or Records of Property Inheritance)’ document which is very closely associated with personal information of pedigree among various genres of historical documents related to the kinsfolk as primary data of this study.
And more specifically, this study set the historical document from the 'Ocheon family'(烏川家) of ‘Gwangsan Kim Clan'(光山金氏) which occupied the most in Bunjaegi documents. I made an intensive analysis of 27 documents from Kim Mu(金務) to Kim Gwanggye(金光繼), grandson of Kim Hyoro(金孝盧) - eight generations - and drew database design plans for linking the information of members of kinsfolk with historical documents.
As a result, the ontology consisted of six classes such as person, official institutes, historical document, inheritance, slave, and land -content factors appearing in historical document. And as semantic elements that are the connecting nodes of semantic relation network, five node data - person, official institutes, historical document, inheritance, and slave, - were set and the connection relation between individual nodes, for example, between persons, between documents, and between slaves was expressed with previously defined relation.
Furthermore, the relations between document-person, between person-inheritance, between inheritance-document, between slave-inheritance, and between slave-person were also defined depending on the rule and systematically organized into appropriate database for implementing semantic web. And then, in order to verify the contents, relation network database was implemented using the graph database management software (Neo4j).
The visualization data presented as a result of a series of the database compilation suggests that the knowledge information from various resources can be linked and expanded, revealing new meaning in the data relation network without limiting to media in which it was originally contained.
