    A Study on a Development of
    U.S. Korean School Teacher’s Professionalism
    - Focusing on Need Analysis of Korean School Teacher
    within LA Korean Education Center-

    The purpose of this study is to carry out a need analysis about Korean teacher’s recognition on professionalism and teacher training program based on teacher of Korean School under LA Korean Education center to present Korean School teacher’s professionalism improvement plan.
    For this, this study was preceded this way.
    First, this presented a theoretical background about the Korean teacher’s professionalism and teacher training after looking into the existing research.
    Second, this was done using e-mails and SNS based on 217 Korean Schools’ 1,938 teachers after completing a survey created through the feedbacks of experienced teachers by using Google Docs need analysis consisted of recognition of professionalism, need analysis about teacher training, and general information, and 112 Korean School teachers from 34 schools have responded.
    Third, the U.S. Korean School teacher’s professionalism improvement plan was presented largely in 3 classifications: ‘the way for organizing a teacher training program reflecting needs of the teacher’, ‘enrichment of teacher’s capability through reflection,’ and ‘other ways to enhance teacher competency’ by using analysis of need analysis’s result as an evidentiary material.
    However, the idea that the most effective self-development strategy is self reflection should not be overlooked. If U.S. Korean School teacher strengthens his or her capability through self-reflection himself or herself and the interagency carries out customized teacher training based on a reflective model corresponding to the result of the desired survey, I believe that this will greatly contribute to the enhancement of the Korean School teacher’s professionalism.
    This need analysis designed in detail reflected on the features of the U.S. Korean Schools and feedbacks of current teachers and its analyzed result can be utilized as reference documents during the production of the U.S. Korean School teacher’s institutional training or teacher self-training program. Also, the U.S. Korean School teacher’s professionalism improvement plan proposed in detail and in reality based on the result analysis can be a great help to the Korean education institutions and the authorities to understand the U.S. Korean School’s education environment and the actual situation of Korean School teacher well.
    If the teacher, who is the shaft of education, is recognized directly related to the quality of education and the U.S. Korean School teacher’s professionalism enhancement and its researched is continued as a priority, the U.S. Korean School’s Korean language education will advance even more.
    Everyone is voicing out and is presenting plans about the fact that Korean teacher’s professionalism is directly related to the Korean language education, but how to enhance the teacher’s professionalism and the quality of Korean language education still remains as a big task and there is a lot to discuss about. Therefore, I, the researcher, hope that follow-up studies that present plans to improve U.S. Korean School teacher’s professionalism in more detail will come out continuously.
