This study was conducted to give juvenile prisoners at K Boy(Junior) Correctional Institution an opportunity of Integrated Education Program for psychical cure and self growth which is 'Zero Camp' at the request of a catholic benefactor. Twenty juvenile prisoners who are sustainedly avaliable in this social competence program were participated for 8 months and their resilience was monitored
The selected most of participants were suffering from acute mental conflicts and stress in relation to prison life. They were taken group counseling to understand themselves and to have amicable communication one another, and their change of resilience were investigated.
Also, the purpose of this study were to give a new springboard and opportunity of success and to overcome realistic situations and adversity, and the present research hypothesis was 'Social Competence Program could positively affect resilience of juvenile prisoners'
'DoDreamZone Program Specialization Study to Support School-to-Work Transitions of Youth at-Risk' which was developed at Youth Counseling Institute and 'Social competence program for an emotionally disturbed people' which reported by Professor Choi at Yongin University were used in the program, and organized into 4 areas such as open, divide, learn, and put according to semester. The 4 areas including various subjects such as 'investigation to self', 'self understandings', 'understanding others', 'interpersonal relationships training', 'anger control and emotion coaching', 'I and my family', 'self and establishment of values', and 'birth of new myself', respectively.
This study was conducted totally twenty weeks except for vacation period from september/2013 to June/2014. Social Competence Program had been performed 3 hours at every Friday, and resilience change of juvenile prisoners had been monitored based on resilience tested at begin and end of the program.
This study used newly modified 27 questions as a research tool. The original questions which called YKRQ-27 to developed by Sin et al. (2009) in order to increase resilience of juvenile prisoners. In addition, abilities of cause analysis, control emotion, control impulse, gratitude, life satisfaction, optimism, relationship, communication, and sympathy as a subdomain research tool tested before and after the program. The statistic program was SPSS WIN, and 9 subdomain results were analyzed as below;
First, there was a significant difference on resilience between test points before and after the program based on t-test data.
Second, the points of 9 areas such as cause analysis, control emotion, control impulse, gratitude, life satisfaction, optimism, relationship, communication, and sympathy which were subdomain of resilience were relatively higher in participated experimental group compared with others.
Third, the present results indicating that there were a positive recognition improvement and behavior change of participations during Social Competence Program for therapeutic elements and attainment of goal.
In conclusion, the resilience of juvenile prisoners who participated the Social Competence Program had meaningful change and there are positive its effects in relation to the purpose of this study.
While it is difficult to simply conclude the only Social Competence Program had clear positive effect on juvenile prisoners, because additional entertainment program including act and dance for musical performance, sports program and group counseling for their psychological resilience were syntagmatically conducted.
