The purpose of this study is to investigate the group art therapy in empathic communication focused effect on how the relaxation and emotional self-regulation skills in children
The participants were high grades 14 people of elementary school attending the ○○area children's center located in Seoul K-borough, and divided into an experimental group and a control group randomly assignment into each of seven people. The experimental group was conducted the group art therapy program focusing on empathic communication 120 minutes twice a week, a total of 12 sessions, and the post-test carried out in the same manner in the experimental group and the control group after the program was terminated. Research tools were conducted in observed the variation of the stress hormone cortisol to see the degree of their emotional relaxation and Person In The Rain(PITR), also using the Self-Regulation Rating Scale(SRRS) and Kinetic House-Tree-Person(K-HTP) to see the changes in self-regulation skills.
The results of this study are as follows.
First of all, analyzed the change in the hormone cortisol and PITR of the experimental group to see the group art therapy in empathic communication focused whether the effect on the child's emotional relaxation. As a result, the hormone cortisol changes of the experimental group in pre-post showed a statistically significant difference, so it was demonstrated effectualness on emotional relaxation, and post change PITR of experimental group were statistically significant differences in PITR.
second, be conduted in SAAS and K-HTP to see the group art therapy in empathic communication focused whether the effect on the child's self-regulation skills. As a result, it showed a statistically significant difference in the convergence, normativity, and interpersonal relationships among the subareas of self-selfregulation. The result of a quantitative analysis of the differences in pre-post of K-HTP, it showed a statistically significant difference in the sub-region of a tree, person, and the symbol, and qualitatively the figure hasn't change in K-HTP of control group, however, a picture of the experimental group is expressed strongly in the strength of the pressure, the person image is comprised in small or helpless and rigid in the pre-test, but in the post-test, it looked for the appropriate pressure person images interacting with each other, and changes in pronounced tree painting.
As can be seen from the above results, the empathic communication focused group art therapy is effective in emotional relaxation and improving self-regulation skills of children.
