Adolescents' characteristics and the effect of smartphone motivation on smartphone addiction

The purpose of this study is to identify Demographic Characteristics (gender, grades and parents' income level), which has influence on adolescents, and Personal Factors (self-efficacy and self-control), and to explore the motivation of smart-phone related to addiction.
As a result of analysis, in terms of place, the first priority in using smart-phone is home. When it comes to gender, female students have much more tendency to use a smart-phone at home. Third grade in middle school account for a high frequency. In addition, the higher income parents have, the much more use students do the internet.
This study discovers four motives of using a smart-phone, namely Usability, Function Pursuing, Rapidity and Information Acquisition. After finding that, it can be seen that Demographic Characteristics statistically makes no difference to motivation and addiction of a smart-phone, while Personal Factors have partially effects on it. In light of Usability, it is direct proportion to both Long Term Self-control and Group Efficacy, but Prompt self-control shows an inverse proportion. Study also finds out that Function pursuing is direct proportional to Long-term Self-control, however, it shows an inverse proportion to Prompt self-control. Additionally, Rapidity and Information Acquisition indicates directly proportional to Long-term self control. Moreover, smart-phone addiction appears increasingly the higher Self Control, the lower Prompt self-control. Lastly. smart-phone motivation which influence on addiction is inverse proportional to Usability.
This study can conclude that those who have higher Usability showed low addiction, since they use it as occasion demands. That is, it demonstrates that using smart-phone by the necessary and convenient measures has less possibility of smart-phone addiction.
