Purpose: People with severe mental disorders are at higher risk of suicide. The
purpose of this study was to explore the link between Psychological Status with
suicidal ideation and ageism and social support in older persons with Physical
Disabilities.
Methods: The participants were 188 elders who lived in S city. The data were
collected through a self-reported questionnaire in elders over age 65. Their
levels of Suicidal ideation, Social support, ageism and depression, Psychological
Well-Being were measured using the likert scale(1=strongly disagree 2=mildly
disagree, 3=neutral, 4=mildly agree, 4=strongly agree). Data analysis were
conducted by the t-test, one-way ANOVA, pearson correlation and stepwise
multiple regression analysis with the SPSS 20 program.
Results: The outstanding finding was that suicidal ideation was significantly
associated with depression, social support and ageism among elderly people.
Conclusion: Suicide prevention programmes should focus on early detection and
prevention for depression in elders with Physica disabilities
