아동이 지각한 부모의 공감이 아동의 정서조절능력에 미치는 영향 : 정서인식 명확성을 매개로 = Effect of Children’s Perception of Parental Empathy on Their Emotion Regulation Ability : The Mediating role of Emotional Clarity.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 초등학교 5~6학년 학생들을 대상으로 그들이 지각한 부모의 공감과 아동의 정서조절능력, 정서인식 명확성과의 관계를 확인하고, 부모의 공감과 정서조절능력 사이의 관계에서 정서인식 명확성이 매개적인 역할을 하는지를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구방법으로는 서울, 경기 및 강원 지역의 초등학교에서 5~6학년 학생 약 270명을 대상으로 설문연구를 실시하였으며, 설문내용은 아동이 지각한 부모의 공감, 아동의 정서인식 명확성, 아동의 정서조절능력에 관한 질문이었다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 18.0 통계패키지를 사용하여 분석하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다.
아동이 지각한 부모의 공감, 아동의 정서인식 명확성, 아동의 정서조절능력 간의 상관관계를 분석한 결과 부모의 긍정적인 공감태도는 아동의 정서인식 명확성과 정서조절능력에 정적인 상관을 보였다. 또한 부모의 공감태도는 아동의 정서조절과 정서인식 명확성에 긍정적인 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 아동의 정서인식 명확성이 아동의 정서조절능력에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것이 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 아동이 지각한 부모의 공감이 아동의 정서조절능력에 미치는 영향에서 아동의 정서인식 명확성이 매개적인 역할을 하는지 알아보고자 위계적 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 부모의 공감과 정서조절능력의 관계에서 아버지의 경우 아버지 공감과 정서조절능력 사이에서 정서인식 명확성이 부분매개를, 어머니의 경우 공감과 정서조절능력 사이에서는 완전매개의 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다.
결론적으로 본 연구는 아동이 지각한 부모의 공감과 아동의 정서인식 명확성이 아동의 정서조절능력에 유의미한 영향을 미치며, 부모의 공감과 아동의 정서조절능력 간의 관계에서 아동의 정서인식 명확성이 매개적인 역할을 하는 것을 확인하였다.
이 같은 결론을 통하여 아동의 정서조절 능력을 발달시키기 위해서 부모의 공감과 아동의 정서인식 명확성이 중요한 요인으로 작용한다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 부모의 공감능력을 향상시키기 위한 부모교육과 더불어 아동을 대상으로 하는 정서에 관한교육에 기초자료로 사용될 수 있음에 의의를 두고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to clarify relationships among parental empathy, children’s emotional clarity, and their emotion regulation ability, and to examine the mediating role of emotional clarity between parental empathy and children’s emotional self-regulation. A total of 270 individual students in grades 5-6 from Seoul, Gyeonggido and Gangwondo participated in the study. All participants were given a questionnaire that assessed their perception of parental empathy, emotional clarity, and emotion regulation ability. SPSS 18.0 statistical package was used to analyze the data.
The results showed a significant correlation among parental empathy, children's emotional clarity, and their emotion regulation; empathic parenting had a positive correlation with both children's emotional clarity and their emotion regulation while children's emotional clarity has a positive effect on their emotion regulation ability.
Hierarchical multiple regression was conducted to examine the mediating role of children's emotional clarity in the relationship between parental empathy and children's emotion regulation. The result indicated that children's emotional clarity partially mediated the association between the paternal empathy and emotion regulation ability whereas it plays a complete mediating role between maternal empathy and emotion regulation ability.
In conclusion, this study shows that parental empathy and children’s emotional clarity are positively correlated with children’s emotion regulation ability, and children’s emotional clarity partially or completely plays a role in mediating between parental empathy and children’s emotional clarity.
This conclusion supports the view that both parental empathy and children’s emotional clarity are important factors in the development of children's emotion regulation abilities. Regarding this, the study hopes to be used as basic data for education aiming to improve parental empathy as well as children's emotional development.
