The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-differentiation and career maturity of adolescents.
In order to achieve the purpose of this study, questions were as follows:
First, is there a relationship between self-differentiation and career maturity of adolescents?
Second, is there a difference in self-differentiation and career maturity by gender differences?
Third, is there a difference in self-differentiation and significant in career maturity of adolescents by age?.
The participants in this study were 413 students including both male and female students, attending Middle Schools or High Schools located in Cheongju.
The instruments used for this study were the Self-differentiation Scale by Jae, Seok bong(1989), and Career Attitude Maturity Inventory by Lee, Gi hak and Han Jong cheol(1997).
To analyze the collected data, the t-test was adopted using SPSS 18.0 program.
The major results of this study were as follows;
First, there was a significant relationship between self-differentiation and career maturity of adolescents.
Second, there was no significant difference in self-differentiation and career maturity by gender differences.
Third, there was no significant difference in self-differentiation but significant in career maturity of adolescents by age.
This study is significant in that it confirmed the hypothesis that an adolescent's career maturity differs according to his/her self-differentiation and that the findings will provide substantive support for adolescent career education and counseling. It is necessary for future studies to focus on plans or program development for enhancing self-differentiation level of adolescents.
