판타지 그림책 연구 : 환상과 현실의 관계를 중심으로 = A Study on fantasy picture books

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 모리스 센닥, 존 버닝햄, 크리스 반 알스버그, 앤서니 브라운, 데이비드 위즈너, 백희나, 이수지의 21편의 작품 속에 담긴 환상과 현실의 관계를 분석하였다. 이로써 독자들이 판타지 그림책을 보는 눈을 기르고, 판타지 그림책의 의미를 되짚었다.
판타지는 개인의 상상력에 머무는 사적인 공간이거나 현실의 도피처가 아니다. 그 공간은 현실세계와 거리감을 가짐으로써 어려운 현실을 이겨내는 힘을 주는 곳이다. 현실에서 소외되거나 불만을 느끼는 아이들은 무엇이든 되고 어떤 것도 할 수 있는 판타지에서 카타르시스를 느끼고 현실을 보는 새로운 시각을 가질 수 있다. 그 중 그림책은 아동에게 판타지의 장점을 느끼게 하는 유용한 장르이다. 판타지 그림책은 환상과 현실을 오가며 어린이에게 꿈과 희망을 보여준다. 그 양상도 다양하다. 모리스 센닥은 환상 세계에서의 갈등․해결구조가 있다. 존 버닝햄은 판타지와 현실의 쉼 없는 넘나듦으로 환상과 현실의 조화를 이룬다. 앤서니 브라운은 현실의 위치 및 역할의 도치로 현실을 새롭게 바라볼 수 있는 시선을 제공한다. 크리스 반 알스버그는 마술적 요인으로 판타지의 영원성을 말한다. 데이비드 위즈너는 현실 소재의 변형으로 끝없는 상상력과 현실이 곧 판타지가 될 수 있음을 보여준다. 백희나는 각 작품마다 나오는 환상물의 상징성을 이용해서 시대상과 더불어 작가 특유의 장인정신과 천진난만함을 드러낸다. 또한 이수지는 환상과 현실의 경계를 주목하고 글 없는 그림책으로 세계 시장에서 한국 판타지 그림책의 가능성을 보여주었다.
위의 7작가의 21편의 판타지 그림책을 분석한 결과 판타지가 어린이뿐만이 아니라 어른들에게도 현실과 자신을 되돌아 볼 수 있는 기회를 준 다는 것이 드러났다. 판타지 그림책 작가들은 독자들에게 편협하지 않은 사고와 정신적 유희, 현실의 진정한 의미 등을 안겨줌으로써 삶을 환상적으로 가꿀 기회를 주는 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research analyzed the relations between fantasy and realities in 21 works of Morris Sandak, John Burningham, Chris Ban Alsburg, Anthony Brown, David Wisner, Baek Heena and Lee Suji. Thus, readers cultivated consideration to watch fantasy picture books and examined meaning of fantasy picture book.
Fantasy is neither private space staying at individual imagination nor escape from realities. The space gives power to endure tough realities by possessing distance with realistic world. Children who are neglected from realities or feel dissatisfaction can possess new sight to feel catharsis and see realities in fantasy where anything can be become and done. Among them, picture books are a useful genre which makes children feel strengths of fantasy. Fantasy picture book shows dream and hope to children by going and coming between fantasy and realities. The aspects are various. Morris Sandak has conflict․solution structure in fantasy world. John Burningham harmonizes fantasy with realities through the continuous passing of fantasy and realities. Anthony Brown provides sights to see realities newly with location of realities and exchange of roles. Chris Ban Alsburg mentioned about eternity of fantasy as a magic factor. David Wisner shows that endless imagination and realities can be rightly fantasy through the transformation of realistic materials. Baek Heena shows periodical image and writer's own masterpiece spirit and purity through the symbolism of fantastic materials in each work. In addition, Lee Suji focuses on the boundary between fantasy and realities and shows possibility of Korean fantasy picture book in world market through the picture book wihtout any word.
As the result of analyzing 21 fantasy picture books of the above 7 writers, fantasy provides an opportunity to reflect realities and readers to not only children but also adults. Fantasy picture book writers give readers an opportunity to make their life fantastic through broader thought, emotional pleasure, true meaning of realities, etc.
