Traditional Korean dance and music are valuable properties that containing domestic emotions. What deserves to be criticized is not university students who do not know how to draw Taegeukgi, but the reality of education that keeps to change in a rapidly changing society. Ours (traditional Korean dance and music) must be converted into compulsory subjects, in order for students to contact them daily. In addition, it must belong to the scope of liberal arts of universities nationwide, in order to change student’s thought and perception of domestic culture, since its education discontinues due to the system of entrance examination.
In this study, the author developed a teaching/learning method of traditional Korean dance, focusing on the cultivation of domestic emotions, fun and flavor in a society in which people must not live alone but live together, based on fan dance, sogo dance and janggo dance into which domestic songs, dances and music are integrated, by dividing it into physical, emotional, social and cultural aspects. The method consisted of 10 sessions, and the education of songs, dances and music was carried out throughout 1~7 sessions, whereas education to feel the unique ethnic characteristics of domestic traditional culture and art and publicize its excellence was carried out throughout 8~10 sessions.
The features of the teaching plan of Korean dance education are as follows;
First, as the education of songs, it presented the step of understanding the characteristic of domestic emotions and music.
Second, as the education of dances, it presented the step of mastering motions in order to make students feel domestic flavor and fun.
Third, as the education of music, it presented the step of educating ‘oneness’ in order to make students feel domestic deep affection.
Fourth, using fan dance, sogo dance and janggo dance, as a means of integrated education of songs, dances and music, it presented the step of feeling and understanding Korean unique ethnic characteristic and artistry.
Via this study’s Korean dance education, university students could change their perception of Korea and improve their recognition of excellence of traditional culture and art. In addition, this study’s Korean dance education realized the oneness of domestic dances and music. The author hopes study findings provide help to teachers in carrying out the Korean dance education not as the repetition of simple motions, but as a means of cultivating domestic emotions.
