The purpose of this study was to find out which relationships had been shown among the job satisfaction and ego resilience, mental health of the child care teachers. The respondents were 552 child care teachers engaged in the child care facilities in Daegu Metropolitan City. And the measurement instruments were the job satisfaction scale, ego resilience scale, and simple mental diagnosis(BSI-18) scale.
The major findings of this study were as follows.
First, the impact of job satisfaction and ego resilience of the child care teachers had explaining variable of 37.5% on their mental health. As the job satisfaction and ego resilience were high, the mental health was shown to be increased. This result are corresponded to previous studies.
Second, the relative impact of the sub-factors of job satisfaction was shown as explaining variable of 10.8% on the mental health. The significant sub-factors were satisfaction upon the relationship with children's parents, and satisfaction upon the nursing environment & employee welfare. The satisfaction upon colleague teachers and the relationship with children's parents were significant explaining variable on the somatism, depression, and anxiety which were the sub factors of the mental health. Their effects were explained by social support effect as in the researches about stress.
Third, the impact of ego resilience on the mental health was shown to be very big explaining variable(34.1%). The significant sub-factors of ego resilience were the self confidence, optimistic attitude, and anger control. The author discussed the necessity for the selection and employing the child care teachers who had high ego resilience in order to increase their mental health. And the necessity for the complementary development program for child care teachers were discussed such as increasing self confidence, optimistic attitude, and anger control of ego resilience.
Fourth, the ego resilience had significant explaining variable for the job satisfaction(13.3%). The significant sub-factors of ego resilience were the optimistic attitude, which had the most explaining variable for the job satisfaction(10.4%). The relationships between the optimistic attitude of ego resilience and the impact of positive emotion on the job satisfaction were discussed .
Fifth, the regulatory effect of ego resilience was shown to be not significant in the relationships between the job satisfaction and mental health. The main effects of job satisfaction and ego resilience on mental health were significant, however their interaction effect on mental health was not significant. This result suggests that the ego resilience and the job satisfaction had affect separatively about the mental health.
Finally, the job satisfaction of child care teacher was shown to be relatively high in those who of 40s age, career more than 5 years, family nursing institute. The ego resilience was shown to be high in the group of age 40s, over-10-year career. The mental health was shown to be relatively low in the low age group of early 20s. The reasons about the differences according to demographic variables and the suggestions of these results for the management of child care institute and the further researches were discussed.
