This study is aimed to find out differences between the image of low-price makeup brands for young women in 20s living in Seoul and Gyeongi area and their satisfaction with them. For this, aquestionnaire survey was conducted twice. In the 1st survey, the best low-price make up brand in terms of purchase experience was asked against 348respondents. Based on the result of thesurvey, the difference between the image of major low-price make up brands and satisfaction with the products was analyzed against 246respondents. Then, the following results were obtained:
In terms of purchase experience, MISSHA was the highest (96 respondents, 27.6%), followed by TheFaceShop (76, 21.8%), InnisFree (56, 16.1%), Etude (51, 14.7%) and others (69, 19.8%). In terms of the amount of money spent to buy low-price cosmetics at a time (purchase behavior), KRW 30,000-50,000 was the highest. When asked where they usually purchase the low-price cosmetics, ‘brand makeup shop’ was most responded.
When asked what has made them buy the low-price makeup brand, ‘price’ was most responded, followed by ‘quality,’ ‘comments (the Internet, tips from the current users, etc.).’ In terms of basic makeup, MISSHA was the highest. In terms of shade makeup, ‘Etude’ was most responded. In fact, purchase behavior differed by brand.
According to factor analysis on common features of the low-price brand image evaluation items, sub-factor 1 and sub-factor 2 were classified into ‘brand information’ and ‘brand image’ respectively. According to factor analysis on commonality of the low-price makeup product satisfaction evaluation items, sub-factor 1, sub-factor 2 and sub-factor 3 were classified into ‘satisfaction with functions,’ ‘intention to repurchase or recommend’ and ‘satisfaction with the product.’
According evaluation on the sub factors of low-price makeup brand image by general characteristics, ‘brand satisfaction’ in sub-factor 1 was low when monthly allowance was high. In terms of difference in evaluation by occupation in accordance with ‘brand image’ of sub-factor 2, ‘graduate students’ was the highest. In addition, satisfaction decreased as monthly allowance was high. According to evaluation on the sub-factors of satisfaction with low-prices cosmetics by general characteristics, there was no difference by occupation in terms of ‘satisfaction with functions’ in sub-factor 1. Satisfaction decreased as monthly allowance was high. In terms of ‘intention to repurchase or recommend’ by occupation in sub-factor 2, satisfaction was high in professional job. Satisfaction decreased as monthly allowance was high. In terms of ‘satisfaction with the product’ in sub-factor 3, satisfaction was high in professional job. No difference was observed by allowance.
According to evaluation on the sub-factors of low-price makeup brand image by purchase behavior, satisfaction was the highest at ‘less than KRW 30,000’ in terms of the amount of money spent at a time in both ‘brand satisfaction (sub-factor 1)’ and ‘brand image (sub-factor 1).’ According to evaluation on sub-factors of low-price makeup brand satisfaction by purchase behavior, satisfaction was the highest at ‘less than KRW 30,000’ in terms of purchase cost in ‘satisfaction with functions (sub-factor 1),’ ‘intention to repurchase or recommend (sub-factor 2)’ and ‘satisfaction with the product (sub-factor 3).’ In terms of a place to purchase, satisfaction was the highest when the product was purchased at a multi-brand store.
According to evaluation on major low-price makeup brand image, Skin Food was high in ‘brand satisfaction (sub-factor 1)’ while MISSHA was high in ‘brand image (sub-factor 2).’ In addition, ‘InnisFree’ was the highest in ‘satisfaction with the product (sub-factor 1),’ ‘intention to repurchase or recommend (sub-factor 2)’ and ‘purchase satisfaction (sub-factor 3).’
It has been confirmed that low-price makeup brand image is closely related with ‘satisfaction with the product.’ In sum, it was concluded that the image of major low-price makeup brands preferred by young women in 20s is highly related with ‘satisfaction with the product.’
It appears that brand image and satisfaction with the product would have a direct/indirect impact on customers’ intention to repurchase or recommend the product. Therefore, it is necessary to establish brand image at product development, investigate customer-wanted products and use the results in marketing.
