결혼이주여성의 사회활동이 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 결혼이주여성의 사회활동이 그들의 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향을 고찰하는 것이다. 이에 전국에서 다문화가족지원사업을 실시하는 복지기관 및 단체의 협조를 통해 이들 기관을 이용하는 결혼이주여성 201명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 결혼이주여성의 사회활동이 개인내적, 정치·사회적 차원의 임파워먼트에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 대인관계 차원의 임파워먼트에서는 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 특히 사회활동 유형면에서, 지역봉사활동이 늘어날수록 개인내적 임파워먼트가 향상되고, 보육양육활동이 늘어날수록 개인내적 임파워먼트는 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 이 같은 결과에 기초할 때, 결혼이주여성이 다양한 사회활동에 참여할 수 있도록 지원할 필요성이 크며, 이를 위해서는 성원권을 지닌 참여자라는 인식의 변화가 필요하다. 또한 결혼이주여성을 임파워시킬 수 있는 다양한 참여의 장이 마련되어 소수문화와 소수언어를 존중하고 이해하는 교육을 바탕으로 지역사회의 수용성을 높이는 것이 중요하겠다. 마지막으로 결혼이주여성에 대한 임파워먼트 접근의 중요성을 인식하고 사회활동이 지속적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 지원체계가 뒷받침되어야 하겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine what impact social activities of marriage-based immigrant women have on their empowerment. In cooperation with social welfare organizations providing multi-cultural family support programs, the survey was conducted on 201 marriage-based immigrant women who are using services of these organizations. The result of the study shows that social activities of the respondents affect their intrapersonal and socio-political empowerment whereas the impact of their social activities on empowerment in interpersonal relationship turns out to be statistically not significant. In terms of types of social activities, the survey shows that more volunteer works for a local community enhance intrapersonal empowerment while activities regarding childcare and child rearing undermine intrapersonal empowerment of these women. Based on the result, it is necessary to support marriage-based immigrant women to help them participate in various social activities. To this end, public awareness should be changed to recognize that they also have the right to be a member of our society. Social acceptance needs to be raised through education which leads the public to better respect and understand cultures and languages of minorities while creating more opportunities of social activities for marriage-based immigrant women. Lastly, a system which ensures supports to help those women continue social activities should be followed in recognition of the importance of the empowerment approach for marriage-based immigrant women.
