The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of family friendly corporate culture upon the formation of attachment in early childhood, and then analyze the mediating effect of family healthiness.
Among a variety of variables that had influence upon the formation of attachment in early childhood, this study looked into the influence of family friendly corporate culture and family healthiness upon attachment, thus providing educational materials on the formation of attachment in early childhood and the development of young children. For this, following study questions were established:
1. ‘What is the influence of family friendly corporate culture upon the formation of attachment in early childhood?’
2. ‘What is the influence of family friendly corporate culture upon family healthiness?’
3. ‘What is the influence of family healthiness upon the formation of attachment in early childhood?’
4. ‘What is the mediating effect of family healthiness for the influence of family friendly corporate culture upon the formation of attachment in early childhood?’
For this, this study used following study tools:
In order to examine family friendly corporate culture, the test tool of culture, developed by Thompson · Beauavais & Lyness (1999), adapted by Bang Myo-jin (2004), and modified and supplemented by Kim Pil-suk (2010), was used. This tool consists of 4 items on disadvantage, 3 items on working hours and 4 items on business entities’ managerial support.
In order to examine family healthiness, this study used the test tool developed by Stinnett & DeFrain (1985) and partially modified by Xia (1994) according to Oriental cultural area, and the test tool developed by Lee Jeong-woo & Kim Gyeong-a (2002) by combining Randall (1995)’s FAMPRO (family profile) and Eo Eun-ju (1996)’s test tool. This tool consists of such 24 items as 6 items on the sense of fellowship, 6 items on communication, 6 items on time sharing, and 6 items on crisis management ability.
In order to test mother’s attachment to young child, the test tool developed and verified by Hwang Hyeon-ju (2005) to test mother’s attachment according to domestic situations. This tool consists of 10 items on positive emotion, 4 items on intimacy pursuit, 4 items on indifference, 3 items on the sense of expectation, and 8 items on contact pursuit.
This study was done after carrying out a preliminary research. A questionnaire survey of 350 mothers who had children attending home, private and national/public childcare centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas was carried out, and the data of 258 respondents were used in study analysis. Study findings are as follows:
First, as for the influence of family friendly corporate culture upon the formation of attachment in early childhood, mothers who had children in early childhood perceived family friendly corporate culture more positively, its influence upon contact pursuit and attachment formation was higher.
Second, as for the influence of family friendly corporate culture upon family healthiness, mother’s concern of disadvantage was higher, family healthiness was lower, whereas their perception of managerial support and family friendly corporate culture was more positive, family healthiness was higher.
Third, as for the influence of family healthiness upon the formation of attachment in early childhood, mother’s family healthiness was higher, positive emotion, intimacy pursuit, expectation, contact pursuit and the formation of attachment in early childhood were higher, whereas indifference was lower.
Fourth, as for the mediating effect of family healthiness for the influence of family friendly corporate culture upon the formation of attachment in early childhood, family friendly corporate culture had no statistically significant influence upon the formation of attachment in early childhood. However, the sense of fellowship had a statistically significant mediating effect for the influence of family healthiness upon the formation of attachment in early childhood.
In conclusion, family friendly corporate culture had no statistically significant influence upon the formation of attachment in early childhood, but family healthiness had statistically significant influence upon it.
Therefore, in order for young children to form stable attachment in early childhood, it is necessary for business entities to make the most of family friendly corporate culture, reduce the stress of child-rearing, and form the sense of intimacy among family members, via the cooperation of family members, thus achieving the formation of stable attachment in early childhood, the positive growth and development of family, and the development of business entities.
