문화다양성교육 프로그램을 통한 학생의 인식 변화 : 초등학교 사례연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리나라 외국 이주민의 증가는 다문화가정 학생들의 증가로 이어지고 있으며 이에 따라 다문화교육이 국가교육정책의 핵심과제로 공식화되었다. 그러나 그간의 문화다양성교육은 인종, 민족에 집중되어, 주로 이주민자 여성, 외국인 근로자, 다문화가정 자녀 등을 중심으로 한 동화주의적이고 호혜주의적인 교육으로 진행되어왔다. 이에 문화체육관광부에서는 2012년부터 ‘다문화교육’ 대신 ‘문화다양성교육’이라는 말로 바꾸어 사용함으로써 원래 다문화교육이 가지고 있는 개념, 취지, 접근을 되찾기 위한 방법을 모색하기 시작하였으며, 소수자만이 아니라 다수자를 포함하여 통합교육방식을 통해 실질적으로 우리의 일상생활에서의 상호 인식 변화를 통한 사회통합을 꾀하고 있다.
이에 본 연구에서는 ‘초·중등 교사 대상 문화다양성 역량 강화를 위한 문화다양성교육 프로그램’이라는 기존연구를 활용하되, 대상을 초등학교 4학년에 맞추어, 문화다양성 교육프로그램을 실시하였다. 그리고 그 결과로서 학생들의 문화다양성 영역에 대한 인식의 변화를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 마인드맵, 문화다양성 검사지, 성찰저널, 인터뷰 분석 등을 실시하였고, 그 결과, 학생들은 다양한 영역에서 문화 다양성을 이해하고 상호공존의 필요성을 인식하게 되었음을 확인하였다. 앞으로 다문화적 감수성과 문화다양성에 대한 이해와 실천이 일반 시민의 필수 역량으로 자리 잡기 위해서, 문화다양성 교육은 좀 더 많은 교과에서 다루어져야하며, 특히 창의적 체험활동을 연계하여 통합적으로 운영하기 위한 체계적인 교육과정 분석이 필요할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Currently, the gradual increase of immigrant population in Korea has
lead to governmental concerns on educational policies related to multicultural education at school. The review on multicultural education practices and policies conducted in diverse sectors of both school and governmental organizations ever since 2006, however, has revealed several problems, hence, started to take new approaches under a term of ‘cultural diversity’, instead of ‘multicultural education.’ The main goals of the new governmental policy toward ‘cultural diversity’ indicate to recover the original goal, meaning, and concepts of ‘multicultural education,’ which is basically based on integral education, and dealing with diverse elements of cultural diversity for the ultimate goal of social cohesion.
In this context, this study aimed to examine the cultural diversity education program’s effects on students’ perception. For this purpose, this study implemented a previously developed program of ‘cultural diversity education program for school teachers‘ to 4
th graders. The results were analyzed from data collected from mind-mapping, a cultural diversity measuring tool, reflective journals, and interviews with the participant students. And the result showed positive changes of students‘ perception on cultural diversity. This study, based upon the result, suggests the increased concern and awakenness on cultural diversity issues through systematic analysis of every subject matters, which might be important in educating students as one with cultural sensitivity and competency.
