The objective of this research is to identify internal and external factor that affects university student's career decision types and career decision-making self-efficacy, to grope for a method of career guidance characteristic by university individual. This work intends to provide the basic data necessary to guide university students’ career by observing career decision-making self-efficacy that has a static effect upon career preparation and decision. Subjects for its inquiry are as follows.
First, what is the difference in university students’ career decision types?
Second, what effect do university students' background factor, parental career support, major and university life, and career preparation have upon career decision-making self-efficacy?
This research collected the questionnaire of 487 university students in two four-year-universities in Kyunggido; excluding 23 insincere respondents, 464 students’ responds have been used finally.
The types are classified by all respondents' career decision status, and, as a result, most of them were decisive-inconvenience type, followed by decisive-convenience, pendency-inconvenience and pendency-convenience type in order. A significant difference was shown in parental guidance support, career barrier, and career decision-making self-efficacy by career decision types. Identifying the relations among independent variables that affect career decision-making self-efficacy, it turned out that grader, the basic background factor affecting career decision-making self-efficacy, showed negative effect, while age showed static effect. Among the parents-related variables, the effect upon career decision-making self-efficacy showed a significantly static relation, depending on how much the parents are involved in career and employment issues. In major and university life variables, it was shown that career decision status and career preparation had a significant static effect.
Therefore, to support university students’ career preparation and decision process, it is necessary to evaluate and use university students' individual characteristics a log with their self-cognition degree and cognition degree of internal and external environment using many reliable test tools.
