This study focused on investigating an effect of sports concentration (attention, confidence, goal setting) and sports confidence (competence preparation, coaching leadership, social support) of middle school students participating in after school golf classes, on the creative personality (endurance obsession, self-confidence, sense of humor, curiosity, imagination, openness, adventure, independence).
For the investigation, using purposive sampling method, one of non-probability sampling methods, the study sampled 312 middle school students who had participated in after school golf classes at A and B Middle School for more than 6 months as of 2012 and chose 288 valid responses to the questionnaire, excluding 24 responses which were determined as false responses
Using SPSS Package Ver. 18.0 for data process, this study analyzed the data by statistical techniques like exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, frequency analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation, multiple regression and verified the difference between the individual groups by a posteriori test using Scheffe method. With the significance level for all statistical values set to p< .05, the analysis result showed as follows:
First, according to the analysis result of sports concentration, sports confidence and the difference of creative personality depending on demographic variables, the gender difference didn’t show statistically significant differences in the sports concentration and the sports confidence. However, endurance obsession, openness, and adventure in the creative personality showed statistically significant differences. When differences of each variable according to the grade of the participants were taken into consideration, statistically significant differences appeared around goal setting in the sports concentration, competency preparation, coaching and leadership in the sports confidence, and sense of humor and independence in the creative personality, respectively.
Second, analyzing the effect of the sports concentration on the sports confidence showed that goal setting affected competency preparation, coaching leadership and social support and attention made a statistically significant impact on coaching leadership.
Third, analyzing the effect of the sports concentration on the creative personality showed that attention influenced sense of humor and curiosity, and goal setting made a statistically significant impact on endurance obsession and sense of humor.
Last, in analyzing the effect of the sports confidence on the creative personality, competency preparation had a statistically significant impact on endurance obsession, self-confidence, sense of humor, openness, and independence, as well as coaching leadership on endurance obsession, curiosity, openness, in addition, social support on endurance obsession, self-confidence, sense of humor, imagination and openness.
