The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of parental learning involvement and academic achievement pressure on test anxiety. This study also examined whether self-esteem mediates the effect of parental learning involvement and academic achievement pressure on test anxiety. To do so, parental learning involvement scale, academic achievement pressure scale, self-esteem scale and test anxiety scale were administered to 612 first year high school students in Daegu.
The results of this study were as follows:
First, parental learning involvement and self-esteem showed significant negative correlations with academic achievement pressure and test anxiety. self-esteem showed positive correlation with parental learning involvement. academic achievement pressure showed negative correlation with parental learning involvement. Second, Multiple regression results showed that self-esteem had most effects on test anxiety. Academic achievement pressure and parental learning involvement also had effects on test anxiety. Third, self-esteem fully mediated the effect of the parental learning involvement on test anxiety. Self-esteem also mediated the effect of the academic achievement pressure on test anxiety. However, academic achievement pressure has a direct effect as well on test anxiety.
