Abstract
As times changed and the country rapidly industrialized, families with both parents increased, and rapid changes of the environment surrounding families changed values of family and family type that maintain and develop family relations directly and indirectly. Consequently, family types in modern society are becoming more and more diverse. Thus, this study aims to identify influences of personal traits and family types of children to their school adaptation ability and social development, and below is summary of the result.
First, for school adaptation ability by personal trait, female than male in gender, big cities than farming village or smaller cities in residence, rich family than poor family in standard of living, and much interested parents than little interested parents had better ability. It showed personal traits meaningfully influencing school adaptation ability. For sociality development, gender did not show meaningful difference. However, in residence, large cities showed a higher ability than farming villages and smaller cities in the listed order. In standard of living, rich family than poor family and much interested parents than little interested parents had better ability. It showed personal traits also meaningfully influenced sociality development.
Second, for school adaptation ability by family type the following from higher to lower showed a greater ability: grandparent and grandchild families, families with both parents, extended families, multi-cultural families and single parent families. However, the result was not meaningful. It showed family type does not meaningfully influence school adaptation ability. Subcategories such as adaptation to school environment, adaptation to classes, adaptation to classmates and adaptation to rules did not show meaningful differences in statistics. However, adaptation to teachers showed meaningful difference that children of grandparent and grandchild family adapted better than children of family with both parents. For sociality development, family type showed meaningful difference in the result. Children of family with both parents had better development than children of single parent families. However, children from multi-cultured families with both parents were influenced rather negatively to show lower sociality in all areas. It showed multi-cultural families need more social attention. Subcategories as like reliability, teachability, diligence, stability, sociability and low-abiding were higher in children of families with both parents than children of single parent families. Children of extended families showed highest social ability and law-abiding, and children of grandparent and grandchild families showed highest teachability.
The result of this study showed influence of personal traits of children to their school adaptation ability and sociality development is great, and especially, personal traits of more interested parents had a positive influence. Family type did not have meaningful influence to school adaptation ability, but sociality development was highly measured with children of families with both parents. It showed it is necessary to provide sociality development program to children of single parent families or families without their parents. Especially, more concern and multi-cultural education programs are necessary for children of multi-cultured family.
