Today Internet environments to children and adolescence are the places of learning, playing, communications, and relaxation. However, the report published by Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion in 2011 indicated that the most available reason to use the internet was to play games on the computer as much as 46.3 percentages of users. One of the psychologistic characteristics of addicting to online games is that the more did they play the games, the higher scores would they like to acquire and the more time did they use the internet. Therefore, they have developed the tolerance, and their tolerance is the factor of addicting to the games on Internet. There are much concerns about the addictions to online games from families and official institutions with children. This problems are not considered as an individual but the challenges of society. This study was conducted in order to find a way for the art treatment about addicted to online games of children and adolescents.
An object of study selected subjects over 70 points in the test of addiction to games(Young, 1999) among students who use the children center at the area S, in seoul. The study period ranges May through September in 2012, once or twice per week, and from 50 to 60 minutes for one time. The total of 21 times were continued as an individual art therapy. Every examination was recorded, and Internet game addiction test and HTP-test were carried out as preliminary inspections and post-inspections.
It was found that the subject after the art treatment was relieved the symptoms of Internet games addiction as a positive result. It means that a child who belonged to the group ‘possible addicts’ to games dominantly in daily lives was changed into the other group ‘normal users’ at the post-inspection. For this changes applied to the art treatment, this study found out that at the early stage the tired and enervated child was observed very often after gaming for a long time, but the middle of that stage his tiredness was getting diminished. Also he was only interested in the topic in relation to games at the early treatment stage, but he was observed to be interested in a variety of media explorations, and his changed aptitude was identified.
This study also indicated that when the child had better apply to his games as a media of the art treatment rather than he was blocked from his favorite games during the art treatment, the accomplishment and involvement in artworks was high. This kind of satisfaction and the experience of achievement makes him recognize himself positively, so that his lethargy and the passive aptitude are changed.
In the results of research, the intervention of the appropriate art treatment on the child who has a kind of Internet addiction symptom is mitigated positively, but this research as a case study is not generalized. Therefore, this study hope to contribute to a kind of useful qualitative resources, and more diverse qualitative and quantative studys are needed about Internet game addictions of children and adolescents from now on.
